Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

Growing Zones 3-7
A strongly vertical, columnar growth habit makes the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Illuminati Tower® Mock Orange (Philadelphus coronarius 'Smnpvg') a big hit in today's smaller gardens! Their erect branching and narrow habit bring a formal look! Just like a living exclamation point! You'll have plenty to choose from for perfumed floral arrangements!
In late spring, you'll be treated to hundreds of fragrant white flowers that are stacked upon each other all the way up the branch! Their scintillating citrus scent freshens your whole yard for weeks. Large, thick, dark green leaves are durable and cloak the branches from top to bottom.
Butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds adore the perfumed, citrusy-scented blooms! This is a classy, sophisticated shrub that is cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 7, Mock Orange grows a small, space-saving 3-4 feet in height at maturity and only spreads to 1-2 feet in width to create a gorgeous fragrant display.
Planting and Application:
These are lush and Illuminati Tower® Mockorange can be used as a pint-sized privacy screen. Use several of them as a low, fragrant hedge to help define your garden design. Space them 18 inches apart on center for a fast fill. Use in a Sensory Garden to delight yourself and your guests with wave after wave of fragrant flowers. Mockoranges are an old-fashioned favorite, and Illuminati Tower® is a selected cultivar that improves on the larger species with a tight growth habit.
Repeat them along the length of your mixed garden border. You'll appreciate their energetic sophistication all year long, as their vertical branches look gorgeous underneath a cap of light snowfall. Best when left unpruned in a fragrant, informal, free-form hedge. or when used as a very special specimen in your landscape. Give it enough room to shine at its mature height and width.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Plant in full sun or partial shade with at least four hours of sunlight a day. Look for a planting site with rich, well-drained soil to achieve the best results. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Although widely adapted to many different soil types, Mock Orange requires well-drained soil. Mock Orange shrubs thrive just about anywhere, including slightly acidic, slightly alkaline, sandy soil, or heavy clay.
Add a nice, 3-4 inches of mulch helps your plant maintain surface moisture and keep roots cool. However, mulch should never touch the main stems of your plant. Once the flowering is done, you can prune them back, to keep a nice, clean look. You can do this hard pruning every year, or less often. Don't be surprised to see reblooming in mid to late summer. Mock Orange responds very well to renewal pruning, or being cut to the ground in late winter to rejuvenate the plant.
- Thrives In Full Sun & Part Shade
- Well-Drained Enriched Soil
- Appreciates Regular Water & Mulched Beds
- Prune Right After Flowering
- Highly Adaptable, Cold Hardy, Disease & Pest Resistant
