Yellow Magnolia

Very nice size when I recd. it. The leaves started coming out within a week. We have had cold nights though and the leaves have started to turn brown. I hope it is going to survive.

Hi,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your Yellow Magnolia. We’re delighted to hear that your plant arrived at a nice size and that new leaves emerged so quickly! We understand your concern about the brown leaves, especially after those chilly nights. Magnolias can be sensitive to cold early in their growth, so some leaf browning is common but usually isn’t cause for alarm.

To support your Yellow Magnolia through this stage, we suggest shielding it from frost when possible, perhaps by using a frost cloth or moving a potted plant to a protected spot during cold snaps. Watering consistently—ensuring the soil stays moist but well-drained—can also encourage healthy recovery. If you haven’t seen it yet, our [Plant Care Guide for Magnolias](https://www.naturehills.com/pages/magnolia-tree-care) offers tips tailored to helping magnolias thrive in varying conditions.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have further questions or need advice. We’re here to ensure your Magnolia grows strong and beautiful with time!

Hi,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your Yellow Magnolia. We're delighted to hear that it arrived in good size and that new leaves began to emerge so quickly! Regarding the browning leaves after the cold nights, magnolias can be sensitive to temperature fluctuations, especially when young. To help your tree thrive, consider providing some extra protection on those chilly evenings, such as a frost cloth or a light mulch base to keep the roots insulated. Also, avoiding excessive watering during cold spells can prevent stress.

What does a butterfly bush look like?

  • The Butterflies Magnolia produces bright canary-yellow double blooms that resemble butterflies in flight each spring before leaves emerge. This small tree or large shrub features 10-16 tepals per flower with a sweet lemony fragrance. Shop at Nature Hills for this stunning pollinator magnet.

Does the Butterflies Magnolia need full sun, partial shade, or full shade to thrive?

  • The Butterflies Magnolia thrives in full sun to partial shade conditions. This adaptable tree performs best with at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal flowering. Plant it where it receives morning sun and some afternoon protection in hotter climates.

Are Butterflies Magnolia Trees deer resistant?

  • Butterflies Magnolia trees are not considered deer resistant. Deer may browse the foliage and buds, especially in areas with high deer pressure. For best protection, consider fencing young trees or using deer deterrent sprays during establishment.

Does the Butterflies Magnolia require any special fertilizer or soil amendments?

  • Butterflies Magnolia thrives in average, well-draining soil without special fertilizers. Like most magnolias, it prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH and benefits from organic mulch. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring if desired, available at naturehills.com.
