Arrived in the best shape of any plant I've ever ordered on line

Arrived in the best shape of any plant I've ever ordered on line. Leafy and robust, it immediately began blooming the most beautiful flowers (and lots of them). A welcome addition to my entry way garden. Be forewarned however, the deer love the new shoots and buds.

A Rose of Sharon that arrives leafy, robust, and already blooming is exactly what we aim to send out, so it's great to hear yours hit that mark. The entryway garden sounds like a perfect spot for it. Good heads-up on the deer. For anyone else reading, a simple deer repellent spray applied regularly to new growth can help protect those buds while the plant establishes.

Hasn't bloomed yet but arrived looking very healthy and vibrant

Hasn't bloomed yet but arrived looking very healthy and vibrant. Can't wait to see the flowers!

A healthy, well-rooted plant is the best starting point, and it sounds like yours is off to a solid start. Lil' Kim tends to bloom later in summer, so if it's still putting on new growth right now, the flowers are likely not far off. Thanks for sharing the update, Maria, and enjoy those blooms when they arrive. The Nature Hills Team

Lil Kim is the smallest Rose of Sharon I have ever planted. Some of my other rose of sharons got too large for their location.

Hello Mary,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Lil' Kim® Rose of Sharon! We’re glad to hear that the plant’s smaller size has been a helpful attribute for your garden—especially since you’ve had other Rose of Sharons that grew too large for their spaces. The Lil' Kim® was indeed bred to offer more compact growth while still delivering the beautiful blooms we all love.

If you’re interested in keeping it thriving, it appreciates full sun and well-drained soil, but it’s also quite adaptable. Regular pruning can help control its shape and encourage even more flowering throughout the season. For additional care tips, we recommend checking out our Rose of Sharon growing guide on our website where you'll find detailed information on maintenance and landscape uses.

We truly appreciate your thoughtful feedback as it helps others make the best choices for their gardens, and we’re happy the Lil' Kim® fits the bill so well for you!

We’re delighted to hear that this variety might be a great fit for spaces where size is a consideration. Indeed, Lil' Kim® is known for its more compact growth habit compared to traditional Rose of Sharon varieties, which can grow quite large and sprawling.

If you're looking to keep plants more manageable in smaller landscapes, Lil' Kim® is a wonderfully perfect choice with its neat, bushy form and continued prolific blooms. To further maintain an ideal size and shape, annual pruning in late winter or early spring can help control growth, while encouraging robust flower production.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big do rose of sharon get?

  • Rose of Sharon typically grow 8-12 feet tall, but the compact Lil' Kim® variety stays just 3-4 feet tall and wide. This miniature cultivar is perfect for smaller spaces like courtyards and foundation plantings in zones 5-9. Choose Lil' Kim® if you want the classic Rose of Sharon look without the large size.

Where to buy lil' kim rose of sharon?

  • Lil' Kim® Rose of Sharon is available at naturehills.com as part of their Proven Winners® ColorChoice® collection. This compact 3-4 foot shrub thrives in zones 5-9 and produces long-lasting white blooms with wine-red centers from summer through fall. Order online for reliable delivery.

What USDA hardiness zones is Lil' Kim® Rose of Sharon suitable for?

  • Lil' Kim® Rose of Sharon thrives in USDA hardiness zones 5 to 9. This compact shrub reaches 3-4 feet tall and wide, making it perfect for smaller spaces. Plant it in your foundation beds or courtyard for reliable summer-to-fall blooms.

Does Lil' Kim® Rose of Sharon need full sun or can it tolerate partial shade?

  • Lil' Kim® Rose of Sharon performs best in full sun for maximum blooming throughout summer and fall. While it can tolerate some partial shade, you'll get fewer flowers and less compact growth. Plant it where it gets at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal performance.

Is Lil' Kim® Rose of Sharon susceptible to any common diseases or pest problems?

  • Rose of Sharon generally resists most pests and diseases, making it quite low-maintenance. Lil' Kim® may occasionally face aphids or Japanese beetles, but its compact 3-4 foot size makes treatment easier than with larger varieties. Good air circulation and avoiding overhead watering help prevent any fungal issues.

Is this plant deer resistant?

  • Rose of Sharon plants, including Lil' Kim®, are generally deer resistant due to their tough foliage and woody stems. Deer typically avoid these shrubs, making them a reliable choice for zones 5-9 gardens. For best results, pair with other deer-resistant plants in your landscape design.

Does this variety require regular pruning and if so, when should I prune it?

  • Lil' Kim® Rose of Sharon requires minimal pruning due to its naturally compact 3-4 foot size. Light pruning in late winter or early spring will maintain shape and encourage blooming. Remove any dead or crossing branches and trim lightly to preserve the natural form.

Can this plant tolerate drought conditions once established?

  • Rose of Sharon shrubs like Lil' Kim® are quite drought tolerant once their root systems are established after the first growing season. This hardy variety thrives in zones 5-9 with minimal water needs. Water regularly the first year, then reduce frequency significantly.
