These will grow beautifully for you in well-drained soil in partial or full shade. High-filtered or dappled sunlight is necessary for clean, healthy growth. An herbaceous Perennial, Hosta grows best in enriched, consistently moist, well-drained soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Top-dress with a 3 - 4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch over the soil surface, especially in dry shade conditions. Deadhead Hostas as soon as the flowers fade for a tidy look, and in fall when these herbaceous Perennials die back from the cold, it's time to prune the mound clean and remove the dead foliage. Divide your Hosta clumps every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.
