Red Candy Lingonberry is a charming, low-growing evergreen groundcover that delivers both ornamental beauty and edible bounty in a remarkably compact package. This dwarf Scandinavian berry plant produces delicate pink-blushed white bell-shaped flowers followed by clusters of bright scarlet berries, the same tart, vitamin-rich lingonberries celebrated in Swedish cuisine. With its small, shiny dark green leaves and mat-forming habit, it creates a beautiful evergreen carpet while yielding a delicious, early and heavy berry crop.
- Delicate pink-blushed white bell flowers followed by abundant bright scarlet berries
- Tart, edible berries excellent for jams, preserves, jellies, and baked goods
- Dwarf mat-forming evergreen groundcover, just 8 in. tall x 10 in. wide
- Small, glossy dark green leaves provide year-round ornamental appeal
- Early and heavy-fruiting selection; prolific berry production
- Thrives in moist, acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil
- Hardy in Zones 4–8
Plant Red Candy Lingonberry in partial to full shade in humus-rich, highly acidic (pH 4.5–5.5), moist, well-drained soil. This shade-tolerant groundcover thrives under trees and in woodland garden settings where other plants struggle. Mulch with acidic wood chips or pine bark to maintain soil acidity and moisture. Water consistently to keep the root zone evenly moist. Multiple plants spaced 12–18 inches apart create a lush, productive edible groundcover. Feed with an acid fertilizer in spring. A wonderful edible landscaping plant for cool, moist, partially shaded garden areas.
