Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment

Growing Zones 3 - 7
With upright orderly growth and cool green-blue hues, the Star Power™ Juniper (Juniperus x 'J.N. Select Blue') is an incredible shrub variety with outstanding form and fine texture for the landscape! The tear-dropped shape of these fluffy shrubs stands out with its gorgeous waxy needles. Arranged in the shape of a star around the new growth!
The soft blue-green color of the leaves transforms to a purplish hue in the cooler months as scaled berries add some ornamental beauty to the female shrubs that songbirds like Cedar Waxwings and Cardinals love to eat. Fast-growing, adding up to a foot of growth a year in optimal conditions.
Star Power™ Junipers grow to an easy-to-manage 15-18 inches in height and 6-10 feet wide at the base but tapering to a point at the top. Each upturned branch is held beautifully and neatly as if they were sculpted that way! Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 7, these are very cold-hardy coniferous evergreen shrubs!
Planting and Application:
Star Power™ Junipers are fantastic garden specimens, focal points, and anchors that light up the landscape all year long! The fluffy blue-green needles stand out among the other summer greenery and winter snows alike!
Pot up a pair in dark planters or urns for a spectacular accent or plant in pairs on either side of your front entry or front steps with other blue-green evergreen groundcovers and shrubs to keep the theme going. Tough enough for Rock Gardens, and sun gardens, Junipers are wonderfully low-maintenance.
These mid-sized shrubs provide year-round screening or backdrops around your sun landscape. Dense enough to create an easy-care large windbreak or snow fencing by planting in drifts, rows, and groupings that fill in fast. Because of the prickly foliage, Star Power™ makes great barrier plants when planted closer together!
- Fluffy Blue-Green Needles Arranged In A Star
- Upright Fat Tear-Drop Shaped Shrubs
- Bird-Friendly Berries On Female Shrubs
- Year-Round Foliage & Purple Dormant Color

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Juniper bushes need to be planted in a full sun, well-drained soil location. Hardy and adaptable to a wide range of conditions, Junipers even tolerate road salt and saline coastal conditions with ease! Water new plants regularly during their first year, but after establishing in their new home, Junipers are very drought-tolerant! A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture in the ground as well as insulates the root system from heat and chill. Prune these shrubs in the very early spring to shape Junipers as needed, but save the snippings for your winter décor and wreaths.
- Full Sun
- Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
- Appreciates Mulched Beds
