Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Like an early summer breeze and sunny skies, the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Summer Skies Butterfly Bush (Buddleia x 'Summer Skies') is a unique Buddleia with gorgeous variegated foliage and a long-blooming nature! The soft lavender blooms meld beautifully with the green and pale creamy yellow splashed aromatic leaves for a gorgeous presentation and butterflies all growing season long!

Your Summer Skies features long spikes of clustered lavender-blue fragrant flowers that are a show-stopper in summer and last through fall. However, perhaps even more valuable in this Butterfly Bush variety is the variegated foliage that will create an eye-catching image in your garden even when not in bloom!

The light yellow edging against the dark green centers of the leaves has a dramatic effect on the foliage of your Summer Skies, and visually brings this shrub to the forefront of any settling it's planted in. As the foliage ages, the leaf edges soften to a creamy white.

Planting and Application:

Transform any garden into a Pollinator garden! Unlike some varieties of Butterfly Bush, Summer Skies won't take on a weedy, wild look. While it still has some spread to it, Summer Skies tends to maintain a natural yet more restrained appearance. It would do well in your mixed border, or as a specimen plant in your yard.

Easy to grow as a space-saving specimen plant as it is as an en masse planting, Butterfly Bushes are beautiful additions to your sun landscape! Pretty enough to be front-yard focal points while being tough enough for the Rock Garden and Fire-wise landscape. Cottage Borders welcome these dreamy shrubs with open arms!

Butterfly Bushes are easy to care for, and the fragrant flowers are excellent cut flowers to bring indoors. Butterflies and Hummingbirds will love you for planting a Summer Skies, but the deer will take little notice!

  • Exceptional Variegated Foliage!
  • Long-Lasting Lavender-Blue Flowers
  • Wonderfully Fragrant & Luscious Cut Flower
  • Butterfly & Hummingbird-Magnets
  • Brilliant Specimens & Focal Points, Mixed Hedges, Backdrops & Mass Plantings

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Hardy throughout a wide range of USDA planting zones 5 to 9, Butterfly Bushes need full sun for the most blooms and the best growth. Anything less than 6 hours of sun a day will result in fewer blooms and leggier growth. The variegated leaves are even resistant to scorching. Provide a well-drained, enriched site with moderate moisture throughout the growing season, especially during the hot summers.

Deadheading the old blooms keeps the plant fresh-looking and keeps those flowers coming! Heat and drought-tolerant, provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch to hold in moisture and insulate the roots. Mulch will help keep the leaves clean and prevent mud from splashing onto them. Each year in early spring, cut all of the branches down to a foot or less and allow all new growth to produce incredible new growth and flowers each year.

  • Full Sun Shrubs
  • Well-Drained Soil
  • Fast Growing & Cold Hardy
  • Moderate Moisture & Fertility
  • Deer Seldom Bother Them
  • Prune In Early Spring

All in all, the dreamy foliage and flower color combo of the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Sumer Skies is a truly exceptional Butterfly Bush variety for your yard! Don't miss out! Order yours today from Nature Hills!
