Planting & Care Instructions

Where to Plant

  • Sunlight: Azure Rush thrives in full sun for at least six hours to maintain its compact habit and prolific flowering. It tolerates afternoon shade in hotter climates, though you might see slightly fewer blooms compared to plants in full sun.
  • Soil: This variety prefers well drained soil that is rich in organic matter. If you have heavy clay, mix in some compost to improve drainage and prevent the roots from sitting in soggy conditions during the winter months.

Watering Requirements

Give your new geranium an inch of water per week until the root system is fully established. Once mature, Azure Rush is quite drought tolerant, but inconsistent moisture can lead to smaller flowers and scorched leaf edges. Aim for deep soakings at the base of the plant to keep the foliage dry and healthy.

Pruning Tips

This geranium blooms on new growth, so you do not have to worry about losing flower buds during a spring cleanup. Think of it like a midsummer haircut; if the plant looks a bit leggy or tired in July, shear it back by half to encourage a fresh flush of foliage and a second wave of flowers. This practice keeps the mounded shape tight and prevents the center from opening up.

Fertilizer Needs

Apply a balanced, slow release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges to fuel the long blooming season. Avoid high nitrogen fertilizers late in the summer because they encourage tender green growth that will not have time to harden off before the first frost. This ensures the plant remains hardy and prepared for winter dormancy.

Show off your style with this splashy perennial Geranium Cranesbill! It will bloom it's head off for you all season-long.

Azure Rush Geranium (Geranium x 'Azure Rush') is a beautiful way to suppress weeds. It's also a superlative choice for butterflies.

Azure Rush Geranium is a sport from Rozanne Geranium with shorter internodes. This keeps the plant compact, neater and lower growing,

The lighter blue flowers are paler than Rozanne, too. Pair both varieties together for a wonderful contrasting display that will pick up the darker veins of Azure Rush.

There is something very restful about pale powder blue and this petite groundcover really delivers. Let it soften the edge of your garden beds and borders; and spill over the side of your retaining walls.

Because Azure Rush Geranium grows in either full sun or part shade, it is perfect for use in mass plantings where you have well-drained soil. Space them 12 inches apart on center, then mulch between plants.

Azure Rush is amazing in drifts at the edge of a woodland, or underplanted beneath ornamental flowering trees. Start with one on either end, and double and triple up near the center.

For a more natural look, keep the lines curving and vary the spacing between the plants and use a gentle zigzag planting pattern. They'll also look fresh and modern planted in crisp, clean lines, if you prefer.

Prune the foliage down to an inch in length in late fall. In spring, gently rake out fallen leaves to tidy up...just don't pull too hard.

Durable Azure Rush Geranium adds a stunning layer of color at ground level. Polish your landscape with their steadfast support this season...order yours today!
