Break free from the continual green of evergreen with the Gulf Stream Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina domestica 'Gulf Stream'). While broadleaf evergreens like Nandina definitely have their place in your landscape, if you're looking to experience a variety of colors and hues throughout the seasons, then the Gulf Stream Heavenly Bamboo shrub should be on your bucket list!
This beautiful shrub is one of the toughest Nandina available! Featuring color for your property year-round on an easy-to-care-for shrub variety that growers simply can't resist! You won't miss your evergreens a bit with the continual color provided by the broadleaf evergreen fine-textured foliage of Gulf Stream Nandina.
Also known as Sacred Bamboo, you're in for a real treat with the Gulf Stream Heavenly Bamboo, since it goes through a range of changes as the seasons pass, each of them an aesthetic sensation. In the springtime, the shrub's new leaves emerge in a resplendent scarlet macaw red.
As spring gives way to summer, bask in the Gulf Stream's soft bluish-green foliage that provides a contrasting backdrop to the petite little white flowers for pollinators that pop up all over the shrub. When the weather starts to cool, wait in anticipation as the foliage blushes to an intensely rich and fiery autumn red hue and its bright red berries!
Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 6-9, Nandina, also known as Tuscan Flame Sacred Bamboo or Heavenly Bamboo, is evergreen in warmer climates but can be deciduous shrubs in cooler growing zones.
In some areas, birds spread the seeds and Nandina thrives a bit too well, so not all locations around the US can have Nandina shipped into their State. Enter your Zip Code in the Plant Highlights section to find your Hardiness Zone on this page and you'll see if Nature Hills can ship Nandina safely into your area. In frost-free locations, Nandina are evergreen, but in colder areas, they will be deciduous or semi-evergreen.
Nature Hills Nursery is at the forefront of environmental regulatory compliance with all agricultural laws. We use an online tool called Plant Sentry™, which blocks shipments of plants that can behave invasively in your locale.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
For the best color, plant Nandina in full sun in cooler growing zones, but in the hottest climates, they appreciate some afternoon shade. Plant these shrubs in about any kind of well-drained soil with regular moisture access at first, then Nandina is hardy and drought-tolerant once established, disease and pest-resistant, and generally easy to care for. A 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch around their roots helps hold in moisture and enriches the soil!
Perhaps no shrub is easier to maintain than the Gulf Stream Heavenly Bamboo. It naturally grows into a small, rounded shape, so you can keep those pruning shears tucked away and preserve your elbow grease.
- Full Sun & Some Afternoon Shade
- Almost Any Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate To Low Moisture Needs
- Prune After Flowering
- Disease, Pest, Heat & Drought-Resistance!
Easy to grow and extremely adaptable, the Gulf Stream Heavenly Bamboo brings all the favorite perks of Nandina shrubs to your landscape without any of the fuss and maintenance! Order yours today at NatureHills.com!
