Well-packed for winter

The trees came as described, healthy, well-packed for the end of winter, early spring. The instructions were great.

Blue Moon Wisteria packed well enough to survive late-winter shipping is exactly what we aim for, so it's good to hear the plants arrived healthy and ready to go. It's a reliable rebloomer once established, so give it a sturdy support structure and a little patience through the first season. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience, Yves.

A good source for specialty plants

My overall experience was a good one. The plants arrived a few days earlier than I expected, fortunately, my neighbor was available to unbox the plants (6) and water them. Two of the 6 plants arrived looking a little stressed with curled yellow leaves. I’m hoping that these 2 plants will survive since being planted. The remaining 4 plants arrived looking healthy and already have new growth. I will buy from Nature Hills again.

Thank you for trusting us with six ‘Blue Moon’ Wisteria Vines and for sharing how they arrived. Early delivery can surprise both plants and people, and curled yellow foliage is a common shipping stress response. Keep those two vines in bright, indirect light for a week, water deeply when the top inch of soil is dry, and add a two-inch mulch ring to steady soil moisture. A gentle root-stimulator or kelp drench helps replace the carbohydrates they used in transit. Once buds swell, train each vine onto a sturdy support, then prune after flowering to encourage new bloom wood—techniques recommended by Clemson Cooperative Extension for vigorous wisteria. Most plants bounce back quickly, so you should see green shoots within a couple of weeks. We appreciate your confidence and look forward to hearing that all six are twining happily around your arbor.

Blue moon Wisteria vine

I purchased 2 plants 2 years ago. They are extremely fast growing and have completely covered our deck railings to a distance of about 25' wide and 4' high. Lots of long blue blossoms in May/June. Advertised to bloom 3 times each year. It's end of July and still awaiting the 2nd blooming. I will update this review if/when that happens. If one is looking for a vine that covers a big area fast; this is the plant to get. Easy to grow and doesn't seem to be bothered by insects except for the occasional Japanese Beetle which are easily controlled by "7".

Hello William,

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughtful review of the Blue Moon Wisteria Vine! We’re thrilled to hear how beautifully your vines have flourished, creating such an impressive and fragrant cover along your deck railings. It sounds like they’re doing exactly what this vigorous plant promises.

Regarding the bloom schedule, wisterias often have one main blooming period, with the second or third blooms depending strongly on your climate conditions, pruning techniques, and nutrient availability. Since it's the end of July and you’re still awaiting a second bloom, you might consider a light summer pruning after the first flush. This can encourage additional flowering while keeping growth manageable. Also, a balanced fertilizer high in phosphorus can sometimes promote re-blooming.

We appreciate your note about the Japanese Beetles and respecting the environmentally balanced “7” for control—it’s great to hear those beetles aren't becoming a major issue. If you haven’t already, a timely morning inspection can help keep them at bay even more.

Please do keep us posted with any updates or questions. It’s always uplifting to learn from our dedicated gardeners—thank you for being part of the Nature Hills family!

Hello William F.,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your Blue Moon Wisteria Vine! We’re delighted to hear how quickly it has grown to beautifully cover your deck railings—25 feet wide and 4 feet high is truly impressive. It’s fantastic that you’re enjoying those lovely long blue blossoms each spring.

Regarding the anticipated additional bloom cycles, it’s great that you’re keeping an eye on the secondary flowering. Sometimes, repeated bloomings can vary due to environmental conditions such as summer heat, pruning practices, or even nutrient levels. A light summer pruning after the first bloom sometimes encourages a second flush of flowers, and ensuring your vine has rich, well-drained soil with balanced fertilizer might also help. Keeping an eye out for Japanese Beetles and managing them as you’re doing is a smart approach to keep the plant healthy and vigorous.

Thank you again for your thoughtful and detailed review. We look forward to hearing how your vines continue to thrive and hopefully bloom again soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where to buy wisteria near me?

  • Blue Moon Wisteria is widely available from quality nurseries and garden centers that specialize in perennial vines. This fast-growing American cultivar reaches 15-20 feet and thrives in sunny locations. Look for nurseries that can provide proper planting guidance for structural support.

How big does wisteria get?

  • Blue Moon Wisteria reaches 15-20 feet and grows fast once established. The flower clusters can stretch up to a foot long, creating dramatic cascades of fragrant blooms. Make sure you have a sturdy pergola or arbor to support its vigorous growth, available at naturehills.com.

What planting zones is Blue Moon Wisteria hardy in?

  • Blue Moon Wisteria is hardy in USDA zones 4-9. This American native variety is more cold-tolerant than Asian wisteria species, making it suitable for most temperate climates. Plant in full sun with sturdy support structures to handle its vigorous 15-20 foot growth.

What type of soil does Blue Moon Wisteria prefer?

  • Blue Moon Wisteria thrives in well-draining soil and isn't particularly fussy about soil type. This vigorous vine adapts to various conditions as long as drainage is good. Plant in full sun for best flowering and ensure your soil doesn't stay waterlogged.

Is Blue Moon Wisteria deer resistant?

  • Blue Moon Wisteria is generally deer resistant due to its woody stems and bitter taste. Deer typically avoid wisteria vines, making this fragrant climber a reliable choice for areas with deer pressure. For best results, plant in full sun where it can reach 15-20 feet on sturdy structures available at naturehills.com.

Does Blue Moon Wisteria require regular pruning to control its growth?

  • Blue Moon Wisteria grows vigorously to 15-20 feet and benefits from regular pruning to maintain shape and encourage blooming. Since it can flower up to three times per season from June until frost, prune lightly after each bloom cycle. Focus on removing spent flowers and controlling wayward growth to keep it manageable on your structure.
