I bought the Yucca plant for my daughter-in-law

I bought the Yucca plant for my daughter-in-law, I called every nursery around where we live in Indiana and no nursery carried them. After searching on line I found what I was looking for. It arrived in about 4 days in a very sturdy box. Great service and the plant was beautiful!

Adam's Needle can be surprisingly hard to find locally, so it's good to know the search paid off. Four days to Indiana and arriving in good shape is exactly what we aim for. Your daughter-in-law picked a tough, striking plant that handles Indiana winters well and asks for very little in return once it's established. Thanks for sharing the experience, Donna. My Yucca arrived well packaged and healthy

My Yucca arrived well packaged and healthy. I planted it right away and have kept it watered almost daily since we are going through a dry spell currently. New growth is developing from plant and it looks very healthy. Very satisfied with the purchase.

New growth this early is a great sign that it has settled in well. Adam's Needle is remarkably drought tolerant once established, so as your dry spell eases you can gradually back off the watering and let the roots develop on their own terms. Thanks for sharing the update, Tom, and enjoy watching it fill out over the season.

My plants are beautiful

My plants are beautiful, but one arrived with the shaft bent. I staked it up, but the flowers died. The other one stayed bloomed forever, it seemed. I was disappointed that the one didn’t have it’s blooms. I hope this won’t affect the blooms in the spring.

Dear Maris,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your new plants. We're delighted to hear that one of them stayed beautifully in bloom for so long—that’s truly wonderful! We’re sorry to learn that the other plant arrived with a bent shaft and lost its flowers despite your attentive care. It’s frustrating when arrivals aren’t perfect, and we understand your disappointment.

A bent shaft and lost blooms can sometimes be caused by transit stress, but the good news is that these plants often recover and bloom anew come spring. It’s great that you staked the plant—that support will help it regain strength. To encourage healthy growth, we recommend ensuring it receives proper watering with good drainage, and if you haven’t yet, lightly fertilizing it in early spring once new growth appears.

If you notice any ongoing stress signs, feel free to reach out—we’d be happy to offer tailored advice or assist as needed. Also, our Plant Care section on the website has detailed tips that might be helpful specific to your plant variety.

Thanks again for letting us know—your feedback is invaluable in helping us continuously provide the best plant experience.

Dear Maria,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We're delighted to hear that most of your plants are thriving and adding beauty to your space. We’re sorry to learn that one arrived with a bent shaft and had to be staked, which affected its blossoms. Unfortunately, damaged stems can sometimes stress a plant’s ability to bloom fully, but it’s great that you acted promptly to support it.

Looking ahead to spring, healthy care and proper pruning can often encourage strong bloom cycles even after a setback like this. When the time comes, consider lightly trimming any weak or damaged growth and ensuring your plant gets plenty of sunlight and balanced water. If you’d like, we can also recommend tailored care tips for your specific plant variety to help encourage vibrant spring blooms.

Thank you again for your trust in us—it means the world. Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions or if you need support nurturing each plant back to full health.

Adams needle yucca

Just got a 3 gallon one online here, and I am impressed, plant arrived in near perfect shape and was carefully packed to withstand the abuse of the worst package handler. Immediately planted it in an empty spot in our backyard rock garden and it looks right at home. I'm sure it will thrive in our long hot growing season in South Texas. Thanks for a great shopping experience from start to finish.

Hi Stu,

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with our Adam’s Needle Yucca! We’re delighted to hear that the plant arrived in great shape and that our packaging stood up to the challenge—your feedback truly means a lot to us. It sounds like it’s perfect for your backyard rock garden and South Texas climate; Adam’s Needle Yuccas do thrive with full sun and well-draining soil, so it’s great to know it’s settled right in.

As the season warms up, just remember that these yuccas appreciate a deep watering about once every two weeks, especially during extended dry spells, but they’re wonderfully drought-tolerant once established. We also recommend occasional feeding with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring to support vigorous growth.

Thank you again for trusting Nature Hills with your gardening needs. If you ever have questions as your yucca grows or want additional planting tips, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Adams Needle Yucca

The blooms on this yucca are beautiful

My Adams Needle just bloomed this year for the first time. I have it planted in a giant container that I wheel into my garage in the winter. It is supposed to only bloom at about the fifth year, but it bloomed on the third year. Beautiful bloom! It stood about four feet in height in full bloom. I should have taken a picture but if it blooms again this year I will. Awsome plant!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the mature size (height and width) of Adam's Needle Yucca?

  • Adam's Needle Yucca forms a compact rosette of sword-like leaves 2-3 feet tall and wide. When mature plants bloom (after 5 years), the dramatic flower spikes can reach 4-6 feet tall. Allow plenty of space for the impressive summer flower display in your landscape design.

Does Adam's Needle Yucca grow well in my planting zone (e.g., zone 4 or colder)?

  • Adam's Needle Yucca is cold-hardy across most of the United States, thriving even in harsh winter conditions. This native evergreen stays green year-round and can handle cold, wet, exposed sites. For zone 4 or colder, grow it in containers for best results, available at naturehills.com.

How much full sun does Adam's Needle Yucca need, and can it tolerate some shade?

  • Adam's Needle Yucca thrives in full sun and needs plenty of sunlight to perform at its best. While it can tolerate some light shade, flowering and overall vigor will be reduced without adequate sun exposure. Plant in the sunniest spot available for optimal growth and those spectacular 4-6 foot flower spikes.

What type of soil does Adam's Needle Yucca prefer, and does it need good drainage?

  • Adam's Needle Yucca thrives in well-drained soil and is quite adaptable to various soil types. These drought-tolerant natives store water in their thick roots, making excellent drainage essential to prevent root rot. Plant them in sunny locations with sandy or rocky soil for best results.

How often should I water Adam's Needle Yucca after planting, and during dry periods?

  • Adam's Needle Yucca needs minimal watering once established due to its thick water-storing roots. Water weekly the first year after planting, then only during extended droughts. These drought-tolerant natives available at naturehills.com thrive on neglect in well-drained soil.

What are the common pests on Adam's Needle Yucca, and how do I treat them?

  • Adam's Needle Yucca is naturally pest-resistant and rarely faces serious insect problems. Occasional scale insects or aphids may appear, but these tough natives typically outgrow minor pest issues without intervention. Simply remove affected leaves and ensure good air circulation around the plant.

When does Adam's Needle Yucca bloom, and how long until flowers appear?

  • Adam's Needle Yucca blooms in summer with dramatic 4-6 foot tall spikes of creamy white, bell-shaped flowers. The plants won't flower until they're at least five years old, but the blooms last about a month once they appear. Be patient with young plants - the spectacular flower display is worth the wait.

Can I grow Adam's Needle Yucca in a container or indoors?

  • Adam's Needle Yucca grows well in containers, especially in cold, wet, or exposed yards. These hardy plants adapt to container life while maintaining their sculptural form and summer flower spikes. Use well-draining soil and place containers in full sun for best results.

Does Adam's Needle Yucca require much pruning or maintenance?

  • Adam's Needle Yucca needs virtually no pruning or maintenance once established. These drought-tolerant natives store water in their thick roots and resist pests and diseases naturally. Simply remove spent flower stalks after blooming and trim any damaged leaves as needed.

Will Adam's Needle Yucca survive cold winters, salt, or poor soil conditions?

  • Adam's Needle Yucca is exceptionally cold-hardy, salt-tolerant, and thrives in poor, well-drained soils. This native succulent survives harsh conditions that kill most plants, including wet, exposed sites. Plant in full sun with good drainage for best results.
