  • Sunlight: This Sedum thrives in full sun, needing at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to maintain its tight, rounded habit and vibrant foliage. While it can tolerate very light shade, too much shade will cause the stems to stretch, become "leggy," and eventually flop open in the center.
  • Soil: Plant in well-draining, gritty, or sandy soil with low to average fertility; think of it as a plant that prefers "lean" conditions rather than rich garden loam. If you have heavy clay soil, amend it heavily with gravel or coarse sand to improve drainage, as wet feet (soggy roots) are the quickest way to kill this plant.

Watering Requirements

During the first growing season, water deeply once a week to help the root system establish, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Once established, Rock 'N Round® Bright Idea is highly drought-tolerant and typically only needs supplemental water during prolonged dry spells. Overwatering is more dangerous than underwatering; consistent excess moisture can lead to root rot and weak, mushy stems.
