Description
Showy workhorse, the lavender-pink blooming native hybrid Rhododendron adds an incredible accent to springtime! Make the most of that magical time of year with your favorite colors from our extensive online catalog! For a larger, spreading shrub with clear rosy-lavender blooms, you can't do better than the sophistication of Roseum Elegans Rhododendron (Rhododendron x 'Roseum Elegans'). Stunning flowers are held on numerous rounded trusses. Each ball-shaped truss holds about 20 flowers!
Its vigor, floriferous nature, and sheer showiness of those amazing blooms make it a must-have staple to use in your landscape! Each clear-toned flower is highlighted with a brick-red dorsal blotch to entice beneficial pollinators. The bees and butterflies adore these blooms, and you will even see the occasional Hummingbird - these funnel-shaped flowers are irresistible to them!
This gorgeous shrub looks great, even out of bloom in the height of summer. Long, leathery, elliptic leaves are held throughout the year...and perform beautifully in frigid winters. Beloved Rhododendrons are ornamental, acidic-soil-loving broad-leaved evergreens. Roseum Elegans is wonderfully easy-care and has earned its reputation as an "Ironsides" selection. Very cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 8, Roseum Elegans grows to a hefty 6-8 feet in height and width!
Planting and Application:
Put Roseum Elegans to work in your landscape! It looks spectacular planted near neutral-colored homes like gray, slate, white, khaki, greige, dark green and brown hues! Mass this choice Rhododendron in long, informal hedges to define your outdoor spaces. Plant them four feet apart on center, measuring between the centers of one to the next. Mix them into a new planting in the dappled shade of mature trees. You'll amplify the impact of both trees and shrubs in an eye-catching garden feature!
Why not use these as a pretty backdrop for your Rose Garden and Cottage borders? Enjoy being creative with this year-round stand-out! Think in terms of layers and multi-purpose uses for all sides of these lovely broad-leaved evergreens. Flowering privacy screens are worth their weight in gold! Use it to hide nosy neighbors along your patio seating. Speaking of neighbors, they'll appreciate a "friendly fence' along your property line. And of course, don't forget about your flying neighbors - all your local butterflies will come over to visit!
On a small lot, use just one for a specimen. Place it carefully, so it will shield an entertainment area on one side, and create a private retreat for a hammock chair on the other. Modern garden design is all about making more room to live in your landscape, no matter the size. Put your family outside for fun in the sun with a beautiful garden room bordered by Roseum Elegans Rhododendron.
This excellent choice is perfect for beginning gardeners. Therefore, it's one of the best gift plants for housewarming presents! Roseum Elegans Rhododendron also makes a very thoughtful memorial plant. No one needs to worry about taking care of a fussy plant during that hard, stressful time...but their beauty will bring soothing relief to those in grief.

#ProPlantTips For Care
Rhododendrons will tolerate full sun, especially up north. However, they'll grow best in partial shade. Although it thrives in cooler regions, it's a good idea to give them protection from the worst of the strong winter winds. However, you don't want to crowd them, as they do need good air circulation. Well-drained soil is a must. Ensure their roots have life-long symbiotic support with Nature Hills Root Booster used during planting. Remember not to plant these shallow-rooted plants too deeply. Mound them up in a hill of extra soil; leaving an inch or two of the root ball showing.
You'll then bring a three-inch layer of mulch up around the base of the plant. Last, pull the mulch back away from touching the stems. Water consistently during the first season. Thereafter, you'll want to give them regular deep drinks when the weather gets dry.
Prune to shape, but wait until after the blooms are finished! Don't wait too long, as you might accidentally trim off next year's flowers. Weed your plantings regularly. Avoid underplanting near your Roseum Elegans Rhododendron to give the roots room to spread. Feed with slow-release fertilizer for acid-loving, ericaceous plants. Follow the label directions for timing and application rates.
