Bad service

When I received a plan, it was upside down and out of the pot and of course died shortly after I have reached out to customer support several times through emails and voicemails and I have heard nothing back

You instead sent it to me and now I have to figure out how to get it to her. So no, I am not happy.

Showed up kinda rough. Order of 6 took 3 deliveries over 4 weeks. Plants were root bound and once re-planted took off. Happy now, not so happy at first.

Late bloomer

I wanted something for mid summer thru fall. The pictures don't do them justice. They are bright purple!

Dear Doris,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the May Night Salvia! We genuinely appreciate your feedback and couldn’t agree more—the vibrant purple blooms truly do brighten up the garden from mid-summer through fall, making them a standout choice for colorful, extended-season interest. It’s great to hear you’re enjoying them despite also noticing they tend to be “late bloomers.” Some May Night Salvias do flourish a bit later in the season as they settle in and mature.

If you’re looking to enhance their growing conditions for even more prolific blooming, consider planting them in well-drained soil with full sun exposure and giving them a light prune after the first flowering – this can stimulate additional blooms and maintain a more compact shape. Also, regular watering (without waterlogging) will keep their vibrant colors popping!

We hope your garden continues to be a delightful popsicle of purple! If you have any questions or want tailored support for your plants, feel free to reach out anytime.

I wanted something for mid summer thru fall. The pictures don't do them justice. They are bright purple!

Dear Doris,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with the May Night Salvia! We're delighted to hear that its vivid, bright purple blossoms have brought that vibrant pop you were hoping for between mid-summer and fall. You're right—the pictures don’t always capture the full richness and glow that these gorgeous salvias display in full bloom.

For future bloom success, May Night Salvia thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, so keeping those conditions in mind will help ensure your plants shine from summer through the cooler months. Plus, deadheading spent flowers can encourage slower, steadier blooming through the season.

If you would ever like tips on companion planting to extend your garden’s seasonality even further or advice on caring for other favorites, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help your garden flourish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best growing zones for May Night Salvia?

  • May Night Salvia thrives in USDA hardiness zones 3 to 8. This wide range makes it suitable for most temperate climates across the United States. Plant in spring after the last frost for best establishment before summer blooms begin.

What is the mature size and height of May Night Salvia at maturity?

  • May Night Salvia reaches 18 inches tall when in bloom and spreads about as wide or wider at maturity. This compact perennial maintains excellent form throughout zones 3-8. Plant 2 feet apart for solid edging borders, available at naturehills.com.

How much sun does May Night Salvia need – full sun only?

  • May Night Salvia thrives in full sun to partial shade, though it performs best with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. In zones 3-8, full sun produces the most abundant violet-purple blooms from late spring through fall. Plant in morning sun with some afternoon shade in hottest climates.

Does May Night Salvia need fertilizer, and when should I apply it?

  • May Night Salvia thrives without regular fertilization due to its low-maintenance nature. A light application of balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges will support vigorous blooms. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can reduce flowering and make plants leggy.

How do I prune May Night Salvia to encourage more blooms?

  • Deadhead spent flower spikes immediately to promote continuous blooming from late spring through fall. Cut back by one-third after the first flush of blooms for a second wave of violet-purple flowers. This low-maintenance perennial available at naturehills.com rewards regular deadheading with months of butterfly-attracting blooms.

When is the best time to plant May Night Salvia in my region?

  • Plant May Night Salvia in spring after the last frost date in your area. Since it's hardy in zones 3-8, timing varies by region - northern gardeners should wait until late spring, while southern zones can plant earlier. Space plants 2 feet apart for best coverage.

What are the shipping dates for May Night Salvia by region or season?

  • May Night Salvia ships during optimal planting windows based on your hardiness zone and local frost dates. Since this perennial thrives in zones 3-8, northern regions typically receive shipments in late spring while warmer zones may get fall shipments for establishing before winter. Check your specific zone's shipping calendar to ensure plants arrive when soil conditions are ideal for the 18-inch mature specimens.

Is May Night Salvia deer and rabbit resistant in real gardens?

  • May Night Salvia's aromatic foliage naturally deters deer and rabbits in most gardens. The plant's herbal fragrance that releases when brushed against makes it unappealing to these pests. Plant it confidently along walkways and borders where deer browse.
