I bought the #3 size of these and received them

I bought the #3 size of these and received them in 2 days. All individually packaged and measuring on average 58 inches tall from top of pot. Very nice trees I wish I would have bought more. Very happy with my purchase. The only gripe o can see people having is that they were a bit root bound but I just broke the roots up a bit and I’m sure they will be fine.

58 inches out of a #3 container is a solid head start, and it sounds like they traveled well too. You handled the root-bound situation exactly right. Breaking up the roots before planting gives them every reason to establish quickly and push out strong. Thanks for the note on that, Nelson. It is genuinely useful for anyone else planting these.

Look great

The trees look great. Excited to watch them grow!

Hi Heather,

Thank you so much for the kind words and for sharing that lovely photo of your Bloomin' Easy® Private Jet™ Arborvitae! We're thrilled to hear they arrived looking great and that you're excited to watch them grow—there's nothing more rewarding than seeing your landscape take shape over time.

These arborvitae are not only stunning but also super low-maintenance and fast-growing, making them a fantastic choice for creating a lush, green privacy screen. For best results, be sure they get plenty of sunlight and consistent moisture, especially during their first season as they establish.

Feel free to reach out if you ever have care questions—we're always here to help!

Wishing you happy planting,

The Sound of Elms.....

I have three that surround my property. My Uncle planted them in the 1940's. They have been pruned severely over the years. I still love them though. All the negatives mentioned here apply. BUT they are still huge and beautiful and the shade is wonderful. AND what is never mentioned is the sound. They make the most amazing whooshing almost water sound when the wind blows. I love them....

Woody nodules

My neighbor has had her tree for around 10 years. It's a lovely tree, but this year it has developed hard, woody nodules in the lower branches. any idea what these might be? The tree looks very healthy otherwise. She fertilizes it every Spring.

Cimmaron Ash

I live in the Chicagoland area, and I love my ash. I planted it in 2003 and it is now finally growing like crazy and the fall color gets better every year....I highly recommend this tree.

Slippery Elm Bark (whole) Uses

Having no experience growing Slippery Elm, Im trying to find plantings now. However, I would like to add important uses for the whole bark. When steamed, the whole bark produces a gelatin coating which is awesome in poultice. It will give you new faith in poultice & herbal effectiveness. Use the almost useless powder like maypo especially for stomach problems. I want to grow this in W. Washington. Thanks.

Beatiful tree

I have seen this beautiful tree before, the foliage is impresive is a magnificent tree.is seedless with strong, upright branches that are resistant to storm and snow damage, we do not get snow in our area, but gets could in the winter. My problem is that I dont know if I can plant it in sandy soil, I live in Florida west coast.what do you mean by "but it does not like poor compacted soils" Answer from Nature Hills: Poor compacted soil is just the opposite of light sandy soil. Compacted means clay or clay mixtures that are quite dense and reduce drainage and new root penetration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How tall does DeGroot's Spire Arborvitae grow at maturity?

  • DeGroot's Spire Arborvitae typically reaches 12-15 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide at maturity. This slow-growing columnar evergreen maintains its narrow profile naturally, making it perfect for tight spaces. Plan for 4-6 feet between plants when creating a privacy screen.

Does DeGroot's Spire Arborvitae need full sun?

  • DeGroot's Spire Arborvitae produces its best foliage quality in full sun conditions. While it can tolerate some shade, full sun exposure creates the lush, soft texture this variety is known for. Plant in a sunny location for optimal growth and winter bronze coloring.

How often should I water DeGroot's Spire Arborvitae?

  • Water newly planted DeGroot's Spire weekly for the first year, then reduce to drought periods only. This arborvitae tolerates periodically wet soils and becomes quite drought-tolerant once established. Check soil moisture 2 inches down and water deeply when dry.

Is DeGroot's Spire Arborvitae deer-resistant?

  • DeGroot's Spire Arborvitae has moderate deer resistance, though hungry deer may browse it during harsh winters. As a native North American evergreen, it's less appealing to deer than many exotic plants. Plant it closer to high-traffic areas for best protection.

Does DeGroot's Spire require fertilizer?

  • DeGroot's Spire Arborvitae is naturally low-maintenance and doesn't require regular fertilizing. A slow-release granular fertilizer in early spring can boost growth if desired. Shop at Nature Hills for this easy-care native selection.
