While it can handle some afternoon shade, you will likely see fewer blooms and a higher risk of powdery mildew if it stays in the dark too long.
  • Soil: These roses love rich, well drained soil that acts like a wrung-out sponge, holding moisture without staying soggy. If you have heavy clay, mix in organic compost or aged manure to improve drainage, or plant them in a slight mound to keep the "feet" of the plant out of standing water.

Watering Requirements

During the first growing season, water your rose deeply two to three times a week to help the roots dive deep into the soil.
