Bright pink, feathery wands! The fat fluffy flowers of the Rheinland Astilbe (Astilbe x arendsii 'Rheinland') feature incredibly striking, tall blooms of clear pink that rise above the foliage, adding a light, airy quality to your beds and borders!

Mounds of lovely lush green, compound leaves, the foliage is light and graceful! Starting a bright green in early spring, they deepen to a darker green as summer approaches. Becoming the perfect backdrop to the incredible blooms! The flowers contrast wonderfully with the glossy foliage and are supported on strong, upright reddish stems.

The fluffy pink blooms are tall and feathery. Each early summer they will be absolutely smothered by pollinators! Astilbe is considered to be deer and rabbit-resistant but will attract loads of butterflies and hummingbirds!

You'll enjoy these unique flowers indoors and out! As lovely in a vase or bouquet as a thriller and focal point flowers as they are brightening your shady paths and garden beds!

Cold and heat hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, these perennials grow 18 - 24 inches in height and width, forming tidy mounds of lacy finery. Fall brings one more trick up Astilbe's sleeve as the chill brings a yellow hue to the foliage before the snow flies!

Landscape Application:

Use this showy perennial for beautiful summer color in shadier areas of your landscape. You will be delighted to see how this plant forms a graceful perennial garden addition or adds beauty to shade gardens! Try planting with Bleeding Hearts, Barrenworts, Hostas, and Ferns!

The Rheinland Astilbe creates an amazingly refined border look or mass plantings and works as an excellent ground cover or edging plant for shady areas. Reaching a tidy two-foot in size, these plants do not overtake or overpower any garden site.

The gorgeous blooms are also lovely additions as both thrillers and focal points cut flowers to make grand fresh or dried bouquets. Create lovely floral arrangements with these bold pink blooms! Any moist, shaded location is fantastic for these lovely blooms.

Perfectly sized for use in containers and planters, even window boxes are fitting sites for these graceful plants! Add a potted Astilbe on your porch, patio, or balcony! Welcome visitors to your shaded front steps with a matched pair of Rheinland as showy thrillers with a fringe of groundcover Ajuga or Sanguineum Striatum Geranium as a lovely spiller!

Update tired Cottage gardens and moist rock gardens, or add some dramatic color and light, airy foliage around your water features where Astilbe can soak up the extra moisture.

Originating in China, Astilbe is also completely at home in Asian-inspired gardens. Also completely at home as an understory planting, use these as facer plants to hide the leggy bare stems of larger shrubs and trees. Or, skirt large trees or garden structures for a clean and finished look!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Rheinland Astilbe is most successfully grown in a shady area but can tolerate some morning sun. Especially in the warmer hardiness zones, be sure to plant these tender perennials where they'll be protected from the hot afternoon sun or completely full shade! Hardy in North America growing zones 4-9, these are very cold tolerant herbaceous perennial plants!

Moist, well-drained soil is a key feature for growing a healthy Astilbe plant. It's also best to not allow Rheinland to overly dry out because all Astilbe prefers moist, humus, organically-rich soils. Adding mulch is recommended in drier areas, to help maintain soil moisture and insulate the root system from heat and cold. Top dress your site with at least 2-3 inches of mulch, extending out past the leaves for a finished look and to maintain consistent soil moisture.

In order to keep Astilbe looking good for the next year, do not cut it back in the winter, (the old foliage helps protect the plant from winter damage), but prune it in early spring so it will look fresh and ready for the next growing season.
