Beautiful

Arrived in wonderful condition, I can’t wait to plant this

Porcupine Grass is such a rewarding plant to put in the ground. Once it gets established, those bold horizontal bands on the foliage really make it stand out in the landscape. Thanks for sharing, Ashley, and enjoy the planting!

All three are healthy and growing well

All three are healthy and growing well.

Porcupine Grass looks great as a single specimen, but planting three together is a real statement in the landscape. Good to hear they are all settling in and pushing new growth. Thanks for letting us know, Kevin.

It was small

It was small, but it is growing slow but sure.

Adagio is a slower grower at first while it puts energy into its root system, so the steady progress you're seeing is actually a good sign. Thanks for sticking with it, Karen. Once it hits its stride you should have a nice full clump in no time.

Satisfied customer

I was a little worried about what the condition of my grass would be once it arrived as it was misrouted in shipping and delayed by a couple extra days. Thankfully once it did arrive it was still in good condition and the soil was still damp.

Shipping delays are always nerve-wracking with live plants, so it's good to hear the Adagio arrived in solid shape despite the detour. Maiden grass is fairly resilient, and keeping that root ball moist during transit really does make a difference. Thanks for letting us know it worked out, Bonnie. We hope it settles in quickly and puts on a great show for you this season.

Dwarf Maiden Grass

This was the perfect grass for my landscape.

Salt tolerant

Dwarf Maiden grass shows excellent salt tolerance. We get a lot of drift from ocean winds and it does not seem to bother this grass.

Plume color

The plume color of the Dwarf Maiden grass is just so bright in the fall. Great grass.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the mature height and spread of Rigoletto Maiden Grass?

  • Rigoletto Maiden Grass reaches 4-6 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide at maturity. This warm-season grass forms graceful fountain-shaped clumps that arch and cascade. Allow adequate spacing for its full spread when planting.

How do I plant Rigoletto Maiden Grass, including spacing and depth?

  • Plant Rigoletto Maiden Grass at the same depth as the container, spacing 3-4 feet apart for individual specimens or 2-3 feet for hedge plantings. This warm-season grass establishes best when planted in spring after soil warms. Shop quality plants at naturehills.com.

Does Rigoletto Maiden Grass need fertilizer, and what kind?

  • Rigoletto Maiden grass rarely needs fertilizer once established, as ornamental grasses prefer lean soil conditions. Over-fertilizing can cause excessive soft growth that flops over and reduces the plant's natural drought tolerance. Apply a light balanced fertilizer in early spring only if growth seems weak.

How do I prune or cut back Rigoletto Maiden Grass in spring?

  • Cut back Rigoletto Maiden Grass to 4-6 inches above ground in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. Since this warm-season grass greens up later than cool-season varieties, you have plenty of time through March. Use sharp pruning shears or hedge trimmers for clean cuts.

Is the Rigoletto Maiden Grass shipped bare root or potted, and how does it arrive?

  • Rigoletto Maiden Grass ships as a potted plant, not bare root, ensuring better establishment and survival rates. The established root system allows for planting throughout the growing season.
