Hefty size and unique foliage, theFirst Editions® Jetstream™ Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia 'PIIHQ-I' PP25,319) is an upright, rounded native ornamental shrub with showy blooms!
Dense and multi-stemmed, Jetstream™ is a deciduous shrub that typically grows 4-6' tall. It is native to bluffs, lush wooded areas, ravines, and streams all over the southeastern United States.
Showy, elongated panicles of beautiful white flower clusters are held high on strong stems. Appearing all summer, by autumn the blooms mature to a soft, light pink. The large, 3-7 lobed, oak-like, deep green foliage.
With intriguing texture and good fall color, the foliage holds up to heat, sun, and humidity. The sturdy stems with tawny brown bark, add winter interest!
Nine inches long clusters of showy, white florets appear all summer into fall and dry to a lovely tan for winter interest. The dark green leaves turn shades of orange-red and burgundy in the fall.
Planting and Application:
Jetstream™ Hydrangea is an incredible specimen plant or anchor for your foundations or other locations near homes or patios. Place it against a garden wall, at the end of a path, or in front of a backdrop of greenery.
Impressively sized for gorgeous privacy and screening. Use as "Living Walls" for Outdoor Garden Rooms and add a tranquil getaway from the world! Looks lovely along a fence to enhance (or hide) the view!
Group or mass in shrub borders or in open woodland areas. The exfoliating mature branches provide interesting color and texture in winter, making Jetstream™ perfect for year-round mass plantings to draw the eye, and provide windscreens and shelter for birds and wildlife.
Create garden vignettes by planting a curved row of these dignified shrubs around a focal point, garden seating, or sculpture!
The dense, compact, non-flopping sturdy stems hold the flower heads upright, making Jetstream™ a great cut flower for bouquets and long-lasting floral arrangements.
Attracting butterflies and even hummingbirds as well as admirers.
#ProPlantTips For Care
Jetstream™ Oakleaf Hydrangea is best grown in organically rich, well-drained soils. Not particular on soil type, just as long as it doesn't dry out for too long or sit in water at any time.
Cooler zones allow Oakleaf Hydrangea to thrive in full sun while in warmer climates these need to be grown in part shade or afternoon shade.
Doing best in consistently moist soils, Hydrangea appreciates a generous layer of mulch which helps retain soil moisture, keep the roots cool in the heat and insulated in winter.
Blooming on old wood, only prune if necessary right after flowering to prevent removing the next flush of flowers. Winter damage may be pruned off in late winter or very early spring.
Hardy in USDA Zone 5 through 9, newly established plants require some protection from the drying, northern winds in winter.
Hardy and adaptable, the unique texture of Jetstream™ Oakleaf Hydrangea will add immense texture and color to your garden! Four-season interest and showy blooms are never out of style, so order Jetstream™ Oakleaf Hydrangea from Nature Hills today!
