As you might expect, the showy Barbra Streisand Hybrid Tea Rose (Rosa 'Barbra Streisand'), produces large, shapely violet to mauve flowers that have a strong sweet Rose scent. These exquisite, clean blooms are worth singing about! The pointed and shapely buds open into a perfect mauve blushing darker and carry an old Rose and Citrus fragrance. Even a single bloom in a bud vase is pure perfection!
Of course, Barbra needed a namesake Rose! Her iconic songs "Secondhand Rose" song "The Rose" stunned the world. She famously approached hybridizer, Tom Carruth, at Week's Roses with her requirements: beautiful classical form, eye-catching color, and marvelously intense fragrance! She was right to trust this avid Rosarian and Barbra Streisand choose a vigorous modern Tea as her namesake! You can tell she knows her Roses too, after all - there are over 600 cultivars on her estate!
Easy-care, cool, clear color saturates all 35 petals of these Hybrid Tea blooms. Barbra Streisand blooms command a dramatic stage presence and shows off strikingly well against the deep, glossy-green leaves of this bush Tea Rose. #ProPlantTips for Care:
Site selection is important, so choose an area in full sun, well-drained soil, and good air circulation. Keep the area tidy with mulch; bag and remove all leaf litter promptly. Roses perform at their peak with a regular schedule of water. It's best to use soaker hoses or drip irrigation, rather than overhead watering.
Read our Planting Guide for expert advice for installing this gorgeous Hybrid Tea Rose bush. Always add Nature Hills Root Booster to your order for use during planting, and as a top dressing for mature plants.
You'll want to mulch the root system but pull it away from directly touching the stems. Growing Hybrid Tea Roses in zones colder than zone 7 should be mounded with 8-12 inches of mulch in late fall for best overwintering. Roses are hungry and need a good slow-release fertilizer in early spring and mid-summer. Use a formula for flowering plants for the best results.
Prune Roses down to six inches in early spring. The blooms occur each year on new growth from the base of the plant. Be sure to rake up all the fallen leaf litter in late fall. Bag and dispose of Rose leaves for good hygiene. The more flowers you cut, the more you encourage repeat flushes of blooms. Why not take cut flowers to schools, nursing homes, and hospitals to say "thank you" to our hard-working helpers?
