Mosquito-Repelling Plants

The truth about mosquito-repelling plants: most lists are wrong. Citronella geraniums do not contain citronella. Citronella grass does not survive northern winters. The plants that actually repel mosquitoes are hardy perennials with peer-reviewed essential-oil chemistry, and they are the ones we grow.

Every plant in this collection contains a documented mosquito-repellent compound: nepetalactone in catmint (ten times more effective than DEET in Iowa State University lab studies), thymol in bee balm, methylchavicol in anise hyssop, linalool in lavender, camphor in Russian sage. These are not marketing claims. They are the compounds inside the leaves.
