Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

The lovely Bouquet Blanc Mock Orange (Philadelphus x cymosus 'Bouquet Blanc') is a small, very fragrant compact shrub! Erupting in the spring, Bouquet Blanc explodes into double, orange-scented, snow-white flowers in large crowded clusters! Butterflies and bees adore these blooms as much as your bouquets will!
This fountain-like, deciduous shrub with its late spring or early summer flowers is an old-fashioned favorite. At home in a shrub border, Bouquet Blanc needs ample room for its arching branches. Filing out in pompom-like perfumed blossoms, these taller-than-wide shrubs have an upright form.
Mock Orange is the North's answer to those deliciously fragrant Gardenias that are too tender for the cold winters. Use these wonderfully cold hardy shrubs in their place and enjoy lush fragrance in any sun garden. People rave about the performance of this useful ornamental shrub!
Planting and Application:
Use these fragrant shrubs around seating areas and outdoor entertainment areas for perfumed privacy! Lovely as backdrops to other garden beds and borders, as radiant focal points, or wildlife and pollinator-friendly groupings in the Cottage gardens, Rose Garden, and along your sunny foundation plantings.
Try running a low hedge along the entire length of a taller mixed shrub border or along the length of your property line or driveway. The vibrant, dark-green leaves and compact form of this shrub will polish up the look of any planting, even if you keep the hedge untrimmed as an informal, free-form shape. For a solid screen, plant them 2 feet on center. You'll measure from the center of one to the center of the next. They will grow together quickly and look like a single plant.
Keep your rows straight if you prefer, or add a bit of visual interest with gently curved lines. Keep it tightly shaped, or let it do its natural thing. You can't go wrong with this hard-working variety. The compact size makes it easy to incorporate Mock Orange just about anywhere as an accent.
- Incredible Citrus Scent!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
For the most flowering, give it a planting site in full sun, Mock Orange is very hardy, growing well into zone 4 to 8 and tolerates a wide range of soils, as long as they drain well and are watered during drought. It grows best when planted in fast-draining soil, rich in organic matter. Try a raised planting of 12 to 18 inches above the soil line if poor drainage is suspected. Add a 3 to 4-inch layer of mulch to keep the roots cool and the surface moisture consistent.
The plant produces its blooms on last year's growth, so pruning should only be done right after flowering. Remove spent flowers and do the desired shaping of the plant at this time. In the case of overgrown plants, the Mock Orange can be renewal pruned, or cut to the ground in late winter to rejuvenate the plant. There are no serious pests or diseases that affect this plant. It will even thrive in city environments.
- Thrives In The Sun
- Well-Drained Enriched Soil
- Appreciates Regular Water & Mulched Beds
