Even though the Wedding Gown™ Bigleaf Hydrangea PP#21052 (Hydrangea macrophylla 'Dancing Snow') is named after the ubiquitous dress, these beauties will make your garden gorgeous for months at a time, year after year, no proposal necessary! Easy to grow and forgiving of "brown thumbs", this is a great plant for a newly wed gardener! It will make you look like a pro! And it's a fantastic gift for almost any occasion!

Each fully double, pristine white flower head that makes up this lacecap flowering shrub's many clusters, is like a perfect miniature bride's bouquet! The small double flowers in the center are surrounded by an outer ring of larger double flowers that give the entire shrub a lacey hand-embroidered effect. Despite being considered a lacecap, these are rounded clusters instead of flattened discs!

The flowers come on strong in the late spring and continue well into the fall if they are deadheaded regularly. You know, of course, what this means? It means armfuls of blooms for your flower vases all season long! Usually, most of the stems will have a flower, which is the amazing thing about this plant!

Planting and Application:

Loving part shade, Wedding Gown™ Hydrangea is a dream shrub for foundation plantings, beds under large trees or natural garden edges! Try them in big pots on the front entry, too! The smaller size is perfect for brightening smaller shadowy spots and urban courtyards alike. Pot up in a large planter for your balcony, porch or patio!

The brilliant white blooms and quilted green leaves are a dramatic combination to add elegance and frills to cottage gardens, perennial beds and foundation borders. A pair flanking the start or end of a pathway, lining a walkway formally spaced, or basking in the shade of a hardscape, or evergreen hedge would look divine! These lovers of part shade locations would love to stand beneath the canopy of a large tree or shrubs shadow!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

For the most blooms and strongest growth, plant Hydrangeas in partial shade to part sun, favoring morning sun and afternoon shade. This is especially important in the hottest of the USDA growing zones 5-9. Plant Hydrangea in moderate, and consistent moisture and enriched organic soil.

Bigleaf Hydrangea bloom on last year's wood, so it's best to prune if needed, and only in the early spring to remove stems that died back in the winter. You can also use renewal pruning to remove the older stems is done to keep the plants vigorous and healthy. This is because 1, 2, and 3 year old branches are the best for flowering and older stems should be cut out to the ground in early spring when removing the old blooms and damaged branch tips.

  • Partial Shade/Afternoon Shade
  • Moderately Moist Enriched Soil
  • Highly Adaptable
  • Prune Bigleaf Hydrangea Early Spring
  • Very Hardy & Easy to Grow
