Rose Bushes need full sun, at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day, and appreciate the drying power of the morning sun with good air circulation. Plant Roses in enriched, well-drained soil. Water new plants regularly so they do not dry out between waterings to support the blooms. You can either install underground irrigation or only water at the root zone and keep excess moisture off the leaves to discourage disease.

Use 3-4 inches of arborist mulch to help keep the roots moist and protected. Applying 3-4 inches of arborist mulch also prevents mud and water from splashing the foliage. Apply Rose fertilizer 2-3 times a year for best results according to package directions.
