Pampas Grass

A 3-4 foot wide, clump-forming Ornamental, with narrow medium-green heavily serrated leaves, the stiff blades form a mixture of arching tips and stiff, straight textures. The leaves are evergreen, long, and slender, and are arranged in dense fountain-like clumps.

The real show starts in midsummer when the spectacular white plumes suddenly erupt from the foliage and reach up to one foot long. The feathery plumes persist and the foliage turns golden brown when touched by frost and cold weather! Birds and florists adore these plumes! Water regularly to establish, and supply occasionally water during times of drought to keep your plants looking their best. Warm-season grasses may green up later in the spring, but really shine once the hot, dry summer weather kicks in! While evergreen in the warmest growing zones, Pampas grass appreciates a haircut in early spring before they start to grow. Tie up the clumps to hold them up through winter and to keep the bundles together when pruning them down in early spring.
