Description
Dark and dramatic blooms that are out of this world, the First Editions® Psychedelic Sky™ Butterfly Bush (Buddleia davidii 'PIIBD-III' PP 26,306) is a shrub covered in huge (six to ten inches long!) spikes of fragrant clear blue flowers that are an instant draw to butterflies and Hummingbirds.
The flowers are strikingly colored and come in droves, ensuring that you will have plenty of great honey-scented cuts for indoor floral bouquets as well as plenty of food for butterflies and hummingbirds outside! Backed by an airy and arching 4-6 foot tall and nearly as wide shrubby mound of gray-green aromatic foliage. Blooming their hearts out until frost!
Psychedelic Sky™ Buddleja from First Editions® will make landscaping easy! Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 5-9, these shrubs won't attract Deer and are relatively pest and disease-free! In some areas, Buddleia can self-seed and become invasive, but First Edition® Buddleia are sterile and won't get into trouble! Nature Hills uses Plant Sentry™ to keep your ecosystem safe!
Planting and Application:
Psychedelic Sky™ flowers are a fresh color in Buddleias! Plant this dark purple bloom and its orange eyes with other butterfly-attracting plants in shades of yellows, oranges, and reds or lavenders and whites to create a gorgeous display! #ProPlantTips for Care:
Butterfly Bushes must be grown in full sun in average, well-drained soil. Buddleia (sometimes spelled Buddleja) need regular moisture their first year, but become low-water usage once established. But they appreciate supplemental moisture during drought and the summer months to keep the flowers returning. Provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch to support your shrub's root system to hold moisture consistently and insulate the roots.
Take care to deadhead this beauty and you will have flowers well into autumn. Once winter hits, Psychedelic Sky™ will die back to the ground in cold winter places and act like an herbaceous perennial, but will come back faithfully every year to resume its place in your garden. In warmer climates, prune it back in spring to 12 inches to rejuvenate the entire plant in the early spring.

Fantastic blooms almost immediately !! Just like the Buddleia Perfecta Trifecta, the Lil’ Raspberry Butterfly Bush arrived well packed and ready to bloom. It’s been only 3vweeks and the bush is attracting a lot of butterflies.
Three weeks in and already drawing butterflies. that is a great sign that the plant settled into its new spot without missing a beat. Buddleias can be reliable that way when they arrive in good condition and go straight into the ground. Thanks for the update, Karl, and enjoy the show this season.

A butterfly bush that earns a one-word review like that is doing its job. Enjoy the blooms and the pollinators it will bring your way. Thanks for sharing, Nancy!
Well…I thought I did all I could do to help my plant survive after receiving it. I kept it in a shady area hoping that would help. I did not overwater as I know that could create more shock. I did end up planting it in an area which gets morning sun. It doesn’t look like it will survive. I broke off a piece of a branch. It looks dead with no green….
Wonderful plant, doing great with lots of visitors already. Beautiful blooms!
Butterfly bushes really do earn their name, and it sounds like yours is proving that already. The Psychedelic Sky blooms are such a standout color that the pollinators seem to find them quickly. If you want even more visitors next season, a light deadheading through summer keeps the flowers coming strong. Thanks for sharing, Helen!
It was in perfect condition when received. I love it!
Receiving a plant in perfect condition is always a great start, and Butterfly Bush tends to settle in quickly once it's in the ground. This one will reward you with long bloom periods and plenty of pollinator activity through the season. Thanks for sharing, Delcie. The Nature Hills Team
My shrub arrived in great condition and continues to grow.
Butterfly Bush establishes quickly when it arrives in good shape, so that steady growth is a great sign heading into the season. It should reward you with a long bloom period and plenty of butterfly visitors once it hits its stride. Thanks for sharing, Patty. The Nature Hills Team
So far it's holding it's own. I planted it in full sun. Plenty of humidity and high 80 temps making it rough. Fingers crossed 🤞
Butterfly Bush is a tough plant, and Lil' Raspberry handles heat better than most once it settles in. Full sun is exactly where it wants to be, so you have that part right. Keep the soil consistently moist through that establishment period and it should start pushing new growth before long. Rooting for it right along with you, Ken! -The Nature Hills team
I planted this a couple weeks before extreme heat in Michigan. Kept it watered and it’s doing well. Very excited to watch it grow.
Starting a new plant right before an extreme heat stretch takes some real attentiveness, and it sounds like you gave it exactly what it needed. Butterfly Bush tends to reward that kind of early care with strong establishment, so you should have a lot to look forward to as it fills in and starts drawing pollinators. Thanks for sharing, Gerry. The Nature Hills Team
Great plants!
Super pleased with all plants. 3 Butterfly bushes had EXCELLENT root growth and were well packaged!
Hi Thomas, Thank you for the 5-star review, we appreciate it and you! We hope that you have an abundance of butterflies flocking to your landscape to enjoy your butterfly bushes! Thank you - Nature Hills Customer Support
