Impressive Condition - Beautiful Plants

This is my third time ordering from Nature Hills and once again, the plants arrived in impressive condition. Everything I ordered arrived healthy, intact, full, and beautiful - these Glow Girl Spireas included. They are, truly, in better condition than anything I’ve seen at local nurseries! I am excited to get these planted and look forward to my next order with Nature Hills!

Three orders arriving in good shape is the real test, and it means a lot to hear we've been consistent for you. Glow Girl Spirea is a rewarding one to get in the ground. Once established, the foliage color and the seasonal interest it puts on are well worth the wait. Thanks for coming back, and happy planting!

I ordered 5 Glow Girl Spiraea. Of these 3 were in excellent condition and 2 were so-so. One of the latter died a few days after planting despite soil amendment and watering at time of planting. It was rather hot, so maybe it was the shock of heat, but it left a hole in my design!

Hi,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your Glow Girl Spiraea order. We’re delighted to hear that three of your plants arrived in excellent condition! We’re sorry, however, to learn that one didn’t thrive despite your careful preparation. High heat during planting can indeed impact young plants—Sudden weather stress can cause transplant shock, even with ample watering and soil care.

If you're open to it, we’d love to assist you in replacing the lost plant or offer tips to help future transplants withstand heat stress, such as planting during cooler parts of the day or providing temporary shade. Feel free to reach out to our team for personalized advice anytime.

Wishing you happy planting,

Dear Ellen,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with the Glow Girl Spiraea plants. We truly appreciate your detailed feedback and are glad to hear that three of your plants arrived in excellent condition! We’re sorry to learn that one plant didn’t thrive after planting, especially given the recent heat—plants can sometimes struggle with transplant shock during extreme weather despite careful soil amendment and watering.

To help reduce heat stress in future plantings, you might consider adding a layer of mulch around the base to help retain moisture and moderate soil temperature. Also, providing some temporary shade during the hottest part of the day can give young plants a better chance to establish. If you still notice any concerns with your recent order, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to support you in finding a good resolution, including replacement options.

We hope your garden design continues to flourish and bring you joy—your efforts definitely brightened your space beyond that one tough loss!

Rooting for your garden’s success,

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Glow Girl® Spirea grow well in my planting zone (e.g., zone 3 or 9)?

  • Glow Girl® Spirea is cold hardy and grows across a wide range of North America, adapting well to extremes of both cold and heat. This native selection won't burn in summer heat and handles harsh winters. Check your specific zone requirements, but this hardy shrub typically thrives in zones 3-8.

How much sun does Glow Girl® Spirea need—partial shade or full sun?

  • Glow Girl® Spirea thrives in full sun to partial sun conditions. This adaptable shrub performs well with at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily, though it tolerates some afternoon shade. For best flowering and fall color, plant in a sunny spot available at naturehills.com.

What are the watering requirements for Glow Girl® Spirea after planting?

  • Water Glow Girl® Spirea deeply twice weekly for the first month after planting. This hardy shrub adapts to various conditions once established, requiring only occasional watering during dry spells. Check soil moisture by inserting your finger 2 inches deep before watering.

How do I prune Glow Girl® Spirea, and when should I do it?

  • Prune Glow Girl® Spirea immediately after spring flowering ends to maintain its compact shape. Light pruning of spent blooms during the growing season encourages continued flowering into early summer. Remove any dead or damaged wood in late winter before new growth begins.

Is Glow Girl® Spirea deer-resistant and does it attract pollinators?

  • Glow Girl® Spirea is deer-resistant and attracts butterflies and hummingbirds with its white spring flowers. The blooms provide nectar for pollinators from early spring into summer. Plant in full to part sun for best results, available at naturehills.com.

Will Glow Girl® Spirea handle hot summers or cold winters without burning or dying?

  • Glow Girl® Spirea is a hardy North American native adapted to temperature extremes, with birch-shaped leaves that won't burn in summer heat. This tough shrub handles both cold winters and hot summers exceptionally well. Plant it in full to part sun for best performance in challenging climates.

How is Glow Girl® Spirea shipped—bare root, potted, or when does shipping start?

  • Glow Girl® Spirea ships as a potted plant during the spring and fall shipping seasons. This hardy shrub adapts well to transplanting and establishes quickly in full sun to part sun locations. Order early in the season for best selection and optimal planting timing.

Does Glow Girl® Spirea rebloom or have fall color, and how long do the flowers last?

  • Glow Girl® Spirea blooms all spring into early summer if you deadhead spent flowers, and displays brilliant chartreuse, orange, and red fall color. The white powder-puff blooms last longer with regular deadheading. Snip off faded flowers to extend the spring bloom period and enjoy the golden summer foliage before fall's colorful finale.
