Where to Plant

  • Sunlight: Provide at least six hours of direct sun for the densest flower coverage and the most vibrant burgundy fall color. While it tolerates partial shade, the plant will produce fewer blooms and develop a more open, leggy habit.
  • Soil: These shrubs prefer well drained soil rich in organic matter that stays consistently moist. If you are dealing with heavy clay, mix in a few shovelfuls of compost at planting time to improve aeration and prevent root rot.

Watering Requirements
