Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment

For those who love the Japanese Cedar Tree, but don't have room for its huge stature, this First Editions® Japanese Cedar offers those desired features but in a more diminutive form! Chapel View™ Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica 'PIICJ-I') also improves upon the traditional Japanese Cedar in other ways.
Your First Editions® Chapel View Japanese Cedar is a dwarf, evergreen tree with an upright form and compact nature that grows naturally beautiful. While some evergreen cultivars acquire reddish-bronze needles for winter, Chapel View™ retains its vibrant, emerald-green coloring, with just a hint of blue shading, and lasts all year round!
The brown cones that sometimes appear on Cedars haven't been seen on the Chapel View™ variety, yet another improvement over its larger relative. All in all, this lovely Dwarf Cedar will provide you with a beautiful, raindrop-shaped tree with lovely, upswept branches!
Landscape Application:
Plant a single specimen as a gorgeous, year-round accent in your front yard, or several in a side yard to ensure both beauty and privacy! The fluffy blue-green color brightens the usual greenery of most shrubs and trees, enhancing all other plants with their lush color.
The smaller 5 - 10 feet in height yet spreads 4 - 8 feet in width at the base, making Chapel View™ ideal as a hedge that won't take up tons of space while adding privacy and property definition that stands out without looking too stuffy or formal. Bulk up a mixed shrub border or brighten your home's foundation plantings where Chapel View™ will easily soften the corners.
Even large planters can hold these smaller evergreens for balcony and porch gardeners! Dress yours up for the holidays or to coordinate with the seasons. Add some casters to your planter and enjoy moving shade and privacy around your seating areas and back deck!
- Lush Bright Blue-Green Foliage
- Dwarf Compact Upright Evergreen
