Butterflies Love It!

Bought one a year ago and had lots of beautiful blue flowers from the get go. Butterflies love this plant! Trimmed it all the way to the ground in Winter and it is growing back so fast this Spring with many more stems. Can’t wait to see this year’s blooms!

Dear Jane,

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with us! We’re thrilled to hear that your plant has flourished with beautiful blue flowers and attracted so many butterflies—it sounds like your garden has become a truly magical spot. You’ve done a fantastic job with the winter pruning; cutting it back groundwork often encourages even stronger growth, so it’s no surprise you’re seeing it rebound with so much vitality this spring.

If you continue giving it occasional pruning and plenty of sunlight, you can expect even more abundant blooms in the seasons to come. Feel free to reach out anytime if you’d like tips on fertilizing or pest management to keep those butterflies happy visitors.

Thank you again for your feedback—it’s gardeners like you who inspire us the most!

Wishing you happy planting,

Frequently Asked Questions

Where to buy blue star creeper seeds?

  • Blue star creeper is a different plant than Starstruck Blue Star (Amsonia). Starstruck Blue Star is typically propagated from divisions rather than seeds, as it's a patented cultivar. For true blue star creeper seeds, check specialty seed suppliers or native plant societies.

How tall and wide will Starstruck Blue Star get when fully mature?

  • Starstruck Blue Star reaches 12-18 inches tall and 18-24 inches wide at maturity, forming a compact, mounded clump. This tidy perennial won't require staking thanks to its sturdy, well-branched habit. Perfect for small spaces or containers, shop at Nature Hills for this reliable native cultivar.

Does Starstruck Blue Star need full sun, partial shade, or full shade?

  • Starstruck Blue Star thrives in full sun to partial shade conditions. This adaptable native perennial performs best with at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal flowering and compact growth. Plant in morning sun with afternoon protection in hottest climates.

What type of soil does Starstruck Blue Star prefer and what pH level?

  • Starstruck Blue Star thrives in well-draining soil with a pH between 6.0-7.5. This adaptable native perennial tolerates various soil types from sandy to clay. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot, especially in heavy soils.

Is Starstruck Blue Star considered a fast-growing or slow-growing plant?

  • Starstruck Blue Star is a moderate-growing perennial that establishes quickly and improves each year. This compact Amsonia forms a tidy mounded clump with sturdy, well-branched stems that won't require staking. Expect reliable spring blooms and brilliant fall color as it matures into a fuller display over time.

Will deer eat Starstruck Blue Star or is it deer resistant?

  • Starstruck Blue Star is deer resistant, as deer don't prefer the taste of this Amsonia cultivar. The plant's natural compounds make it an unappealing choice for browsing deer. Plant it confidently in areas where deer are present without needing additional protection.

Does Starstruck Blue Star require regular fertilizing?

  • Starstruck Blue Star is a low-maintenance perennial that doesn't require regular fertilizing. As an improved cultivar of native Amsonia, it thrives in average garden soil without supplemental feeding. Apply a balanced fertilizer once in early spring if desired for optimal bloom production.
