Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 4-9
It's all Fun And Games® with Eye Spy Foamy Bells PP 30,532 (xHeucherella 'Eye Spy')! Fancy from head to toe, Foamy Bells are a cross between Coral Bells and Foam Flowers but seem to be over-the-top versions of both! Keeping the fancy flowers and leaves of its parent plants and showing off in the part sun or shade garden!
It's easy to see why this is a Proven Winners® perennial! Forming vibrant, mounded displays of bicolor maple-leaf-like foliage, the lobed clumps on slender stems emerge in spring as a bold banana yellow, with a flashy center splash of rose! The leaves mellow to chartreuse green with a silver overlay, keeping the purple to burgundy central splash.
Unlike their Coral Bells cousins which are primarily used as foliage accents, Eye Spy produces gorgeous, showy spikes of airy, fizzy-looking bubblegum pink flowers too! Appearing in big bottlebrush clusters, the blossoms easily charm every pollinator, bee, butterfly, and Hummingbird in the area! Appearing in late spring, the mildly fragrant blossoms add to the trinity of beauty created by these unique plants!
Need more to love about these Heucherella hybrid perennial plants? Their leaves can be semi-evergreen in mild winters and sometimes evergreen in warmer USDA growing zones 4 to 9 like their Coral Bells relations! Forming small and tidy mounds that gradually expand into 8-10 inch high clumps when in flower, and creeping into 15-20 inch wide mounds of sheer charm!
Planting and Application:
With so much color on one plant, plus being sized for use everywhere, that means any shady garden can enjoy one or more of these vibrant little flowering ornamentals! Growing short but politely spreading, these fill your landscape with color! Add to both informal or formal beds, and as extravagant finishing touches anywhere you need some garden bling!
Heat and humidity-tolerant Foamy Bells love shady beds and the edge of woods, and rambling throughout the understory as much as they fit in among mixed perennial beds, Cottage gardens, cut flower borders, pollinator gardens, woodlands gardens, and even a rock garden in the partial sun or shade! Mixing and melding with other Tiarella, Heuchera, or Heucherella with ease!
Soften angular lines and hard textures, add a colorful skirt around trees and shrubs, define garden beds, and highlight other plants beautifully with Eye Spy Foamy Bells! Plant along a walkway or encircling a patio, they will create a fringe-like foliage edging. Use Fun And Games® Foamy Bells to blanket the ground between tall perennials or to act as flowering groundcover without worrying about loads of maintenance or fuss!
The lively color stands out and acts as a vibrant specimen all on its own but you can ramp up the color pop by planting Eye Spy in small groups! Because of their compact size, they are also a good choice for decorative pots and window boxes. Show off with a planter full of these filler and thriller plants encircling a taller specimen accent tree on your back deck or front porch for a unique focal point planting!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Eye Spy is eye-catching and bright in both partial and full shade, retaining its color and blooming for many weeks! Handling humidity and heat, as well as cold winters, this Perennial plant is easy and low-maintenance! Deer, pests, and diseases even seem to skip over these hardy little show-offs!
Requiring moist humus-rich, well-drained soil, Foamy Bells are not particular on soil type, just be sure they won't ever dry out. A good 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch will help with that by maintaining soil moisture and insulating the roots. Prune these little plants in the very early spring to clear away old foliage and freshen up the mounds. You can deadhead the flowers as soon as they fade or snip the blossoms for indoor bouquets if you'd prefer to keep Eye Spy as a foliage plant exclusively!
- Easy Care & Low Maintenance
- Full Shade & Part Shade
- Any Well-Drained Soil Type
- Loves Consistent Moisture, Organic Matter & Mulched Beds
- Disease, Pest & Deer Resistant!
