Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Important Notes
Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season
- Specific varieties may have limited availability in certain sizes

Growing Zones 6-9
Introducing the incredible Proven Winners® Arizona™ series of hybrid Hyssop perennial plants! The lemony yellow Arizona™ Sun Hyssop (Agastache x 'Arizona Sun') adds sunny color and unstoppable flower spikes to any tricky garden location in the sun! These are drought-resistant flower power with blooms that don't quit until fall! Backed by a compact mound of silvery sage-green foliage, these rounded herbaceous perennials seem unstoppable!
Need more of a reason to love Hyssop perennials? Not only does every inch of this plant and its flowering spikes exude an enticing minty-licorice aroma when crushed or brushed by, bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds all go crazy for tubular Hyssop blooms! These are the bee's and hummingbird's favorite colors, and perfectly shaped for hummingbirds, butterflies, and hawkmoth tongues!
Growing quickly to a full and bushy 8 - 10 inches in mature height and width each growing season, Arizona™ Sun is both heat and sun tolerant throughout USDA hardiness zones 6 - 9! The long-lasting colorful bracts add interest to this herbaceous perennial plant long after the petals have fallen away! Deadheading - or shall we call it 'snipping as many flowers for bouquets as you want' - helps keep more flower spikes returning until fall and keeps the plant compact and well-branched!
Planting and Application:
Any garden becomes a pollinator haven and hummingbird resort with the addition of these incredible nectar-rich yellow blooms! Add a bird feeder and birdbath to attract them from near and far. Pair with other pollinator favorites to create a butterfly garden or wildflower border that benefits all!
Arizona™ Sun Hyssop can be used as container and planter filler plants in cooler growing zones, similar to how you would use annuals. Use that sunny cheerful color to enliven seating areas, perfuming the back deck, adding lemony color to a sunny terrace, and in patio planters! Thriving in those tougher locations and for busy gardeners that might miss a watering here and there.
These Arizona™ Series Agastache are incredible long-lasting blooms that just pop in the landscape! The pale yellow spikes of flowers are a great filler in Cottage and Perennial beds and borders, add finery when planted among Rose bushes and mailbox gardens in the sun! Add that special something to Rock Gardens and Xeric landscaping!
Best of all - they're so easy-care and maintenance-free! That ease of care extends to these perennials being used in commercial plantings and en masse alike! Filling in large swaths of hot dry ground and sandy soil without batting an eye!
- Lemony Yellow Flower Spikes
- Tubular Flowers Perfect For Hummingbirds & Pollinators
- Silvery Sage-Green Compact Foliage
- Long-Lasting, Repeat Blooming Color
- Beds, Borders, En Masse, Dry, Rocky Xeric Plantings & Containers
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Aromatic Hyssop does its very best in the full sun! Provide at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day, in a very well-drained location! Not particular on soil type, they do appreciate a layer of mulch to hold in moisture and love regular watering as young plants get established in their new homes.
Prune Agastache perennial plants in late fall after the foliage has died back. Trimming them down to near the ground and removing excess leaves and foliage from the area. Give your herbaceous plant a 3-4 inch layer of mulch and water it in well for the winter.
- Thrives in Full Sun
- Very Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate to Low Moisture Once Established
- Prune Back in Late Fall
- Drought-Tolerant & Deer-Resistant
