Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age

Growing Zones 4 - 9
Rosy purple-blushed skins with creamy white cloves, the Purple Creole Garlic (Allium sativum 'Purple Creole') combines the best of softnecks and hardnecks varieties with silver skin. One of the rarest Garlic bulbs, Purple Creole has a hot, spicy complex flavor.
Purple Creole Garlic has 8-12 cloves per bulb, with tight skin, making this variety great for long storage. Purple Creole Garlic originated in Spain and was once known as Southern Continental, and is also sometimes called Cuban Purple or Mexican Purple Garlic. Regardless of the name, Purple Creole is hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, growing 2 feet tall.
Planting & Application:
Creole Garlic varieties are well suited to hot southern growing climates and tolerant of early-season heat and drought. Arriving as dormant bulbs, separate the cloves (called bulbils) and plant individually with a small portion of the bulb poking above the soil, root side down, 2 to 4 inches apart in rows 6 inches apart. Harvest once the tops have begun to brown and store them in a braid or a cool, dry place with plenty of air circulation.
With a long storage life and a flavor that makes up for the slightly smaller clove size, Purple Creole is great for cooked, fresh recipes, or roasted, with a fantastic bold flavor! You can use the flavorful scapes and even grow 'Green Garlic' that is spring planted and used more like green onions which are very versatile and excellent in cooking as well!
