Strong and robust, the Northern Extra Hardy Porcelain Garlic (Allium sativum 'Northern Extra Hardy') features a spicy, pungent flavor with large creamy-white cloves and pinkish papery skins. Northern Extra Hardy is a hardneck Garlic variety that forms bulbils at the top and large cloves below ground.

Northern Extra Hardy Porcelain Garlic is indeed hardy and lives up to its name! Growing throughout USDA planting zones 1-9, these edible bulbs grow 18-24 inches tall.

Planting & Application:

Divide the bulbs into separate cloves (called bulbils) and plant individually with a small portion of the bulb poking above the soil, root side down. Space cloves 2 to 4 inches apart in rows 6 inches apart.

Northern Extra Hardy Porcelain Garlic is fantastic for spring planting in warm climates and fall planting in cold climates. You'll soon be enjoying a harvest of flavorful scapes and later maturing cloves for all your favorite recipes! You can also grow 'Green Garlic' that is spring planted and used more like green onions which are very versatile and excellent in cooking as well!

The flavor mellows when cooked, but packs a tasty punch when used fresh. Harvest once the tops have begun to brown and store them in a braid or a cool, dry place with plenty of air circulation.
