Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 3-8
When you arrive home with these bright and cheerful daffodils waiting to greet you, you will feel like you're living in a storybook. The Akita Daffodil (Narcissus 'Akita') is one of the brightest, showiest, and happiest Narcissus you can grow! Its fragrant bright lemon-yellow petals and tangerine cup are mesmerizing!
This Trumpet Daffodil lights up the garden in mid-spring. What makes this Daffodil stand out among its peers? The Akita Daffodil's bloom is anything but petite. With a well-ruffled, long cup and broad petals, this beauty can be admired from a distance and appreciated up close. This showy flower has a shallow but wide cup. In fact, you may mighty yourself feeling like a pollinator as you're drawn closer and closer to this vibrant bloom.
Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 8, these foliage clumps form polite colonies over time. Fast-growing, these fall-planted, spring-flowering perennial bulbs are low-maintenance and easy to grow! Deer seem to leave these plants alone but Pollinators are drawn to these blooms!
Planting and Application:
Daffodils captivate the spring garden! To maximize their color, plant in rows and groupings throughout the landscape. These bulbs happily mingle among later emerging perennials and shrubs, then appreciate their neighbor's foliage later in the season to protect the Daffodil from the summer sun. The Akita does naturalize well, so provide it enough space to do so and it will happily oblige.
As one of the taller Daffodils with a huge bloom, you can use this bright beauty to make a statement in your garden bed or as a mass planting. Many gardeners like to use their Akita Daffodils as floriferous erosion control on embankments and slopes.
Indoors, Akita lends itself well to forcing for winter color and fragrant décor. Grow in a cloche or shallow dish of pebbles and moss, or in a specialized forcing vase for some winter cheer! Pot up on a porch or patio container garden in the sun or in a spring window box or railing planter!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
The Akita Daffodil is both squirrel, rabbit, and deer resistant, which means you can plant this almost anywhere in your yard that receives full to partial sun. Any soil type is suitable so long as it is not soggy. Deadhead after flowers fade, but let the leaves remain so they can make food for the bulb and next year's flowers! Not only is it strong, but it also has incredible endurance. Its blooms endure through spring showers and days of sunshine. Fall-planted bulbs need well-drained soil with moderate moisture needs. Add bulb fertilizer to each hole for best results. Deadhead after flowers fade, but leave the foliage to make food for the bulb. Once the foliage yellows, then you can prune them down to the ground.
- Full Sun For Strongest Growth
- Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Deadhead After Flowers Fade & Prune Mounds After Leaves Yellow
