Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 3-8
Container-ready fragrant blooms, the Rome Peony (Paeonia 'Rome') is a smaller, compact and easy-to-grow perennial that allows you to dress up your landscape even if you don't have a yard! Shorter and smaller in stature, you won't go without that incredible fragrance or that vivid color that Peony are well-known for!
Rome features incredible double blooms in bright pink with ever so slightly lighter edges. Each petal has a lovely fringe and stands on sturdy shorter stems among lush green lobed leaves. A couple of rhizomes fill a patio pot or porch planter with no problem! They will still call loads of pollinators while supplying your bouquets with plenty of cut flower enjoyment!
Growing 24 inches tall and about as wide at maturity, these Peony grow fast and bloom after a year or two in the ground. Remarkably cold-hardy and durable in USDA growing zones 3 through 8, Peony rhizomes have thick, fleshy roots and several 'eyes' that are best planted in the fall or early spring.
Planting and Application:
Bred for container gardening culture, these outrageously beautiful and long-lived plants bloom all spring and then supply later emerging blooms with a lush green backdrop! Keep these fragrant flowering ornamentals by your garden bench in a fancy urn, around patio seating areas in mixed planters, or on a balcony garden no problem!
If you do have a yard, then you won't sacrifice space planting groupings, rows, or specimen plantings of these space-saving perennials that rival any flowering shrub in your landscape! These fragrant blooms are perfect additions to cut-flower gardens and pollinator gardens! Use Peony in your perennial border or mixed shrub garden and cottage gardens!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
This perennial is long-lived and tenacious! Plant in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, that also has good air circulation. Provide regular yet moderate moisture while first establishing, but then, these rhizomes are drought tolerant. Deadhead after bloom and cut the foliage down after it yellows. Ensure containers have ample drainage and winter protection from the worst of the winter's chills.

Information About Bareroot Peonies
Bareroot Peonies are shipped as nice, 3-5 eye bareroot divisions. Their woody roots are not uniform, it is normal for each root to look slightly different.
Nature Hills Nursery ships bare-root Peonies in the fall according to your growing zone to ensure they will remain dormant all winter until emerging in spring.
