We've taken both the Female and Male varieties of Blue Holly broadleaf evergreens and carefully grown them together in the same container - creating this fantastic 2-in-1 Royal Family Holly Combo (lex x meserveae 'Blue Princess and Ilex x meserveae 'Blue Prince')! You'll be ensured of proper pollination needed for the very best display of those classically showy red Holly berries.
The display begins in spring with tiny white flowers, that slowly transition into round green fruit that ripens to eye-catching red. The effect of bright red against the glossy green foliage is breathtaking, especially when contrasted against the winter snow or against the muted tones of the dormant season.
Elegant broadleaf evergreen Blue Hollies really look sophisticated all year long, with their incredibly shiny, dark blue-green, serrated leaves and deep purple stems. This lovely broad-leaved evergreen plant combo makes the perfect screening plants, barrier plants, or specimen plantings! The Royal Family Holly Combo grows into an elegant broad-leaved evergreen. It easily elevates the tone of your landscape with its densely held formal foliage. The high-gloss leaves bounce reflected sunlight to marvelous effect.
This is an excellent choice to use to create living walls for outdoor rooms in your garden. Create a Secret Garden or outdoor dining room using these dense, ornamental evergreens for screening. These formal plants create a beautiful screening hedge or grouping and give you effortless year-round privacy. Plant them 3 feet apart on center for a dense hedge. You'll measure from the center of one to the center of the next.
Use an odd number of plants to create a focal point grouping in the lawn or try one on either side of your entryway. No matter where or how you use the Royal Family Holly Combo, you'll add much-needed, year-round structure to your garden design. Use them strategically to direct traffic as a beautiful barrier plant. #ProPlantTips for Care:
Blue Hollies love moist, well-drained soil. Plant in full sun or partial shade and give your plants a moderate amount of regular water. It's best to water the soil, not the foliage. Provide a layer of mulch over the root system to keep the soil cool and moist. They love a sunny or partially shaded location. Add moisture as needed to keep the plants stress-free for the very best performance.
If you suspect poor drainage, mound up additional soil to 18" - 24" above grade and plant directly in that mound. You can also plant in a raised bed to improve drainage.
Blue Holly doesn't require special care but adapts well to yearly pruning. Wearing gloves to protect your hands, lightly prune your plants in the fall by cutting long branches for your pots and urns for winter decoration. You will love enjoying the beautiful foliage and berries.
Reach beneath the canopy and trim a long branch with bright red berries on it. Aim to select branches that are crossing. Your goals are three-fold: 1. gather the berries 2. increase air circulation into the interior of the shrub and 3. increase sunlight penetration into the center of your shrub. If the plants need more pruning for shape or size control, it can be done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. For the most attractive result, please stagger the depth of your pruning cuts, and do not use electric trimmers. It's worth the time to hand prune these beautiful plants.

I am always leery about ordering plants online but because of the great reviews, I decided to take a chance. A few minutes ago the Ilex arrived and it is absolutely beautiful. Leaves are shiny green, soil was moist, no broken branches, no signs of bugs or disease etc. It is also bigger than what I was expecting and stands 32" tall including the pot. I am absolutely delighted and will order more shrubs etc from this vendor!
I ordered two different holly plants from this vendor. Both arrived well-packaged and in excellent condition. Plants were tall (app 2.5 ft), thick (app 2 ft wide), and healthy with moist soil. Well worth the money spent. I recently ordered a China Boy from Home Depot for a little less money. With that order, I received an 8 inch tall plant that an animal promptly stole! I recommend spending a little more money to get this exceptional plant.
Very pleased with this purchase! The holly combo arrived three days from purchase, packaged well, in robust health, almost 5 feet tall, even with a few berries! You could easily pay 2-3x the price at a big box store or nursery. I won't hesitate to order plants next year. Who knew??
These came earlier than stated (awesome!) and were in excellent condition. The packaging was incredibly good and protected them. They were about 4 1/2 feet tall from bottom of pot to top of holly. Shiny, healthy leaves. Can't wait to get them planted.
This Blue Princess/ Prince Holly was the greenest healthiest plant i may have ever seen. Around 36 inches with new growth. Very happy with this and shipping. I am buying two more and other plants down the road from them.

I ordered these hollies because I needed Blue Prince to fertilize the Blue Princesses I had just bought from a local store. These had good reviews, but I was a little dubious as it said they would take almost 10 days to arrive! I tracked the two packages and they were picked up almost the day of ordering and were with the carrier by the weekend. We live in Texas, it's over 100F for the last 10 days and I didn't have high hopes for these.BUT they arrived today (Tuesday) they were due next Friday, so early (yes). Thank you, very happy customer.

Bigger than expected and healthy
It came very well packed! Durable cardboard box held up during the shipping process. The plant arrived very healthy and I saw a few red berries! It made me smile. In the ground it went and I will fertilize it with Hollytone, but will read the directions first to see when to fertilize. I can't wait to see snow on it in winter.

I ordered two Royal Family hollies as an addition to my new landscape project. The photo shows them planted and happy. I was surprised at the size of the plants. I was expecting 1-2 ft bushes but these were 4 ft tall! The fence is 8 ft tall so the hollies show up very nicely. They arrived in excellent condition with clear planting instructions. Well worth the price paid!
So far so good. I planted in the front where there's lots of sun. They both look great and there's new leaves on one. I can't wait for the RED berries to come...not that I want winter, but I love the berries!! Definitely nice.
