Heavenly fragrant and dreamy white bells, the Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis) is a fragrant white spreading plant that sends up graceful arches of dainty bell-shaped flowers in spring! Each arching stem is weighed down by the profuse blooms it carries. The fragrant flowers are followed by glossy orangy-red berries in late summer to fall.

Broad oval, pointed green leaves are the perfect backdrops for the arching 6-8 inch tall flowering stems full of long dangling blossoms. Butterflies will stop by for a visit and you'll be treated to bees and fat bumblebees trying to wriggle into each little bell to sip the nectar!

A slow but aggressive spreader, Lily of the Valley adds a bit of elegance and charm to shade-prone areas of any landscape! These plants have been around since 1000 B.C. and are often found near old foundations, where they proved more durable than the houses they were planted around! Hardy perennials throughout USDA growing zones 3 through 9, Convallaria loves moist soil and less than 6 hours of sun a day.

Planting and Application:

Once it becomes established, Lily of the Valley plants are long-lived and spread slowly through its rhizomes called 'pips'. Filling areas in bold green leaves and heavenly-scented little blossoms. No shade garden should be without some! Plant rows and groupings to provide all the home perfuming blooms your vases can handle!

Shady containers and planters, in any tight area that needs to be filled, or bare spots in the dappled shade of larger trees and shrubs, are all perfect for these fragrant blooms! Plant among your shady bulb gardens, beneath and around Roses or around other perennials to act as living mulch and groundcover!

  • White Bell-Shaped Flowers
  • Extremely Fragrant Blooms & Slender Stems
  • Vertical Green Broad Leaves
  • Dense Spreading Groundcover
  • Groupings & Rows, Shade Gardens & Containers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

This perennial rhizome thrives in moist, humus-rich, fertile soil, in partial sun or full shade. The more sun there is, however, the more important it is for the soil to remain moist. Drought tolerant in shaded areas, it's best to apply a 3-4 inch layer of mulch to help with soil moisture and insulation. Plant in an area with good air circulation to prevent fungal spots on the petals. Deadhead after flowers fade but leave the foliage to make food for the rhizomes. Prune down to the ground when leaves turn yellow. Divide clumps every 3-5 years if needed.

  • Thrives Partial Sun To Full Shade
  • Best In Moist Locations With Mulch
  • Well-Drained Fertile Soil
  • Aggressive But Not Invasive
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant

Heavenly little bells of incredible beauty and fragrance, the elegant little Lily of the Valley will fill your garden (and bouquets) with pretty blooms! Order these quality rhizomes and more at NatureHills.com for shipping at the proper planting time in your growing zone!
