Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season
- Specific varieties may have limited availability in certain sizes

Fast Growing Native With Sunny Fall Color!
We know - Virginia Creeper sounds like the name of a Scooby Doo villain. "I would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for those meddling kids!" But, trust us, this vine isn't a bad guy.
Yellow Wall Virginia Creeper, Parthenocissus quinquefolia 'Yellow Wall', is actually a really great garden plant. This beautiful native vine grows super-fast and can cover a fence or wall in a season or two. An almost perfect plant for the gardening novice, Yellow Wall grows in almost any soil and any garden condition. It grows in full sun or shade, in good soil and bad. It climbs by sticky-padded tendrils and grows on almost any surface without boring in and damaging them. (You will want to choose your growing site carefully, though. It will quickly cover an area very quickly! It prunes easily and is very forgiving, though, so don't be shy.)
The green leaves turn lemon-yellow in the fall and are so thick that you will truly have a "yellow wall" of foliage each year. It is deciduous, so the leaves drop in winter, but it grows bunches of dark-blue berries that will stay on through the cold months and are a treat for birds. In the spring the leaves return in full force.
This is an easy plant to grow and care for and will make you look like a pro! Order a few Yellow Wall Virginia Creepers from us today! Try it with Red Wall Virginia Creeper for a double color treat!
