The variegated Wojos Jem Periwinkle PP#11809 (Vinca maculata 'Wojo's Jem') is a selection of trailing vinca with creamy yellow leaf centers edged and flecked with dark green. It has large leaves and this Major Vinca is commonly called Large Periwinkle, Greater Periwinkle, or Blue Buttons
The large violet-blue blossoms unfurl in the spring and then the butterflies arrive! Adding beauty to the carpets of bi-colored greenery is accented by returning violet-blue flowers sporadically into the fall season!
Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 7 to 9, this Vinca can be semi-to-fully evergreen throughout mild winters and can be used as an annual accent in cooler growing zones. Reaching just 6 - 12 inches in height at maturity, the plants can spread 12 - 24 inches wide.
Planting and Application:
Use as a spreading groundcover to brighten shade gardens. Wojo's Jem looks beautiful cascading down slopes, banks, walls, and curbs. When planting, space 8" apart for quick cover of smaller areas; space 12-18" apart to cover large areas.
This means you'll achieve an impressive cover for eroding slopes, transform hillsides that are hard to mow and even dangerous into safe landscape features, and enjoy a spiller that cascades over the tops of retaining walls beautifully!
En masse plantings throughout the garden quickly become variegated carpets that cover the ground beautifully! Wojo's Jem is a versatile groundcover that will brighten up shadier areas and keep weeds under control in your landscape!

This Vinca is best grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. The plants prefer moist, humusy soils in part shade, but tolerate close to full shade in the hottest of its favored growing zones. Provide a well-drained area with regular moisture access for new plants while they are becoming established, but once they have settled, they become rather drought-tolerant! Trim back any winter dieback in the spring after flowering, but you can shorten up wayward tendrils at any time.
