Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Super sweet goodness, the Welder Muscadine Grape (Vitis rotundifolia 'Welder') is an incredibly sweet Grape variety in cultivation! Making Welder perfect for fresh eating, juicing, and even wine! These delicious amber-colored fruits will ripen late August into September, likely later in northern climates.

Spring brings greenish-white blooms and lush green leaves, Welder is native to America's Southern states. Attracting bees and butterflies to help you with the pollination process! By summer you'll see the gleaming clusters of fruit developing, ripening late in the growing season for fall snacking, juicing, or other delicious uses!

Welder Grapes are a heat and humidity-tolerant variety of Muscadine that thrive throughout USDA growing zones 7 to 10 and grow up to 10-15 feet in height and about 6-8 feet wide depending on what your vines are grown on. Welder is self-fertile and also makes an excellent pollenizer variety for other Muscadine varieties, but you will get a larger yield by planting multiples!

Planting and Application:

Grapes are just as pretty as they are sweet and healthy for you! The lush foliage and shaggy bark of their canes bring a bit of Tuscany to the landscape! Train these stout vines up supports around the sides of a pergola or arbor and bring shade and privacy, (and fruit!) to your outdoor garden rooms and entertaining areas!

Welder Muscadine Grapes need sturdy supports to grow. By planting in rows or groupings of these hardy vines, you'll increase pollination and yield, as well as draw pollinators into your landscape that will help pollinate other fruit trees and shrubs and the veggies in your Victory Garden.

These are quick-growing fruiting vines that will cover your trellis, arbor, or shade structure in no time! In the fall, the big leaves put on a colorful show, while winter brings fascinating bark and vine structure to your garden. The canes find many uses by making wreaths and swags, and the leaves too can be brined and eaten!

  • Big Round Amber-Colored Fruit
  • Lush Green Foliage & Shaggy Bark
  • Heat & Humidity Resistant Self-Fertile Vines
  • Pollinator-Friendly Spring Blooms & Late Season Harvest
  • Edible Gardening, Shade, Privacy & Fruit For Fresh Eating, Juicing & Wine

#ProPlantTips for Care:

This Muscadine Grape requires full sun and require heat to ripen. Plant your vine where it will get the most! These deciduous vines do well in most soils as long as you have good drainage. Wet or heavy clay soils are not good for Grapes. An ideal pH level for Grapes is 6.5, but they grow well between 6.5 and 7.5. Provide 3-4 inches of arborist mulch to help maintain the proper temperature and improve the soil quality over time.

Early spring is the best time to plant Grape vines. During the first year, mulch your vine and keep free of weeds. Prune off broken or dead portions of branches and roots. At the same time, prune the top growth to a single cane when dormant or in the early spring before they begin to grow for the year because the canes can drop sap and bleed if pruned too late or too early.

During the first year, grape vines are normally tied to a stake to keep them off the ground. If the season of planting is dry, supplemental watering is also necessary to keep the vines growing. It is important to get as much first-year growth as possible. It usually takes about three years to establish a Grape planting. Vines planted for training on a trellis are normally placed eight feet apart, while those planted for training on an arbor can be placed four feet apart. In the second year, provide support for the vines before growth begins. Either a trellis or arbor works well.

  • Full Sun For The Most Fruit
  • Regular Moisture Schedule & Loves Mulched Beds
  • Enriched Well-Drained Soil & Mulch
  • Needs Sturdy Support
  • Prune When Dormant or Early Spring

You can still find a few Muscadine vines in the Southern wild, but why go to all of that trouble if you can grow your own vines right at home? Order the Welder Muscadine Grape from Nature Hills and enjoy a beautiful edible landscape today!
