The Hahs Viburnum (Viburnum trilobum 'Hahs') is one of the best compact Viburnum available! This attractive ornamental garden shrub becomes completely covered in clusters of pure white pinwheel-like lacecap flowers in May! Not to be outdone, the fall foliage and glossy brilliant red fruit to round out the growing season incredibly! Bees, butterflies, and other pollinators fully take advantage of these lacy landing pads and sip nectar all spring!

The foliage emerges a striking coppery color, and then ages to a lustrous, medium to dark, deep green in summer. It turns a deep purple in autumn. Featuring deep green tri-lobed foliage similar to that of a Maple tree, you'll enjoy the lush presence of greenery all summer long. The perfect backdrop for those pollinator landing pad flowers, it also highlights the gorgeous drupes of fruit in the autumn months!

The fruit starts out green, then changes to yellow then blush orange, and finally transforms into glossy brilliant red! The fruit persists well into the fall and makes tasty jams and jellies for humans, but it's mainly sought after by songbirds for winter sustenance! A cold-hardy deciduous shrub with a dense, rounded, spreading habit, Hahs Viburnum is a native cultivar found rambling throughout swamps, bogs, near water features, forming naturalized thickets, and growing down steep slopes!

Planting and Application:

Hahs Viburnum has a love of moist to soggy locations making it ideal for those tricky areas by the gutters, where the HVAC drains, or in sunken low spots in the yard! Take those less-than-ideal locations and turn them into Rain Gardens and water features! In average garden conditions, these look lovely as backdrops to Cottage borders, perennial beds, and behind Rose gardens for frilly finery and brilliant winter interest!

Classic bird-friendly and wildlife habitat shrubs, the food in fall, and the shelter all year round are a welcome respite for our feathered friends. Create shelterbelts and groupings that feed pollinators while giving you and your family privacy, peace, and seclusion! Suitable for front and back yard landscaping, this vibrant fall color is not to be missed! Snip a few berries for fall and winter craft projects, outdoor décor, and wreaths! Just don't take too many so your birds have plenty to eat.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Hahs Viburnum will fruit best in full sun but will also grow and flower beautifully in partial shade. Preferring moist, well-drained soil, these are widely adaptable to most soil types and moisture levels once established! Being a low-maintenance shrub, Hahs prefers soil that contains sandy loam mixed with some clay. Resistant to deer, Black Walnut tree juglone and cold, there's little that fazes these deciduous shrubs! For more fruit, plant several Hahs Viburnum or with other Viburnum trilobum selections for increased pollination!

Don't shear them, or you'll lose the flowers and fruit for next year. Instead, prune any crossing, diseased or dead branches back as needed after the flowers are passed. Wait to Prune after flowering, as the shrub blooms on old wood. You can also skip tip pruning and renewal prune only if you wish to have fruit for birds. Renewal pruning removes the largest, thickest stems from the ground every few years. This will rejuvenate your shrub. Leave the young stems in place, which will flower nicely for you next spring.

  • Full Sun or Partial Shade
  • Adaptable to Most Average to Wet Well-Drained Soil Types
  • Provide Mulched Beds & Moderate, Regular Moisture
  • Prune After Flowering To Deadhead & Shape Shrub
  • Deer Don't Prefer The Taste & Juglone Resistant

Sweet and colorful, the easy-going Hahs Viburnum will be your moist to wet soil garden's new flowering favorite! Hurry and order this unique variety today before they're gone - from the experts at NatureHills.com!
