Sugar Tiger Peach Tree (Prunus persica 'Sugar Tiger') is a fantastic yellow, bagel-shaped fruit with orange stripes throughout! This is a low-acid peach with an amazing sweet juicy flavor!
Peach Trees have gorgeous pink blossoms that are fragrant and call pollinators and butterflies from far and wide. Those gorgeous blooms retreat as the lush green foliage emerges for the summer and become the backdrops for the saucer-style fruit!
The deciduous Sugar Tiger is heat tolerant in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9 and is self-fertile. You'll get a generous harvest without a second tree. However, as always, you'll enjoy a much larger harvest when you pair your Peach tree with another that blooms at about the same time.
Planting and Application:
Growing to 20-25 feet in mature height and 15-20 feet in mature width, these are impressive shade and specimen trees, especially once they're in full bloom, or dripping in delightful fruit! Prune smaller for an easy-to-install accent or focal point that pulls double duty in the landscape by providing juicy fruit for you and your family!
Sugar Tiger is perfect for fresh eating as well as baking, sauces, desserts and preserves. There's nothing quite like freshly picked fruit still warm from the sun! Use as a backdrop to vegetable and perennial gardens, anchor and shade
- Unique Bagel-Shaped Fruit
- Yellow With Orange Tiger Stripes Throughout
- Lush Green Foliage & Pink Fragrant Flowers
- Harvest July & August
- Low Acid Sweet Flavor
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Peach Trees need full sun to flower and fruit best, plus have the strongest growth possible. Provide a moderately moist and fertile site that is very well-drained with good air circulation.
Prune to open the canopy, and remove dead, broken and diseased branches in the winter or early spring when dormant. Summer pruning as it gets older can reduce the size, and spring pruning for shorter flowering branches to adjust the amount of fruit that will develop on the plant.
- Full Sun
- Moderate Consistent Moisture & Fertility
- Prune Early Spring
- Provide Good Air Circulation
- 400-600 Chill Hours

Sugar Tiger Peach Tree Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take for Sugar Tiger Peach Trees to bear fruit?
Nature Hills Nursery sells fruit trees with mature root systems that are already three to four years old, so you’ll enjoy fruit sooner than you would with younger trees! Expect a young peach tree to begin fruiting by the 3rd year after you plant it.
How Fast Do Sugar Tiger Peach Trees Grow?
Be sure to plant your peach in a sunny and well-drained location. Once your Sugar Tiger (Prunus persica 'Sugar Tiger') has been established (after the first year), it can typically add 12-18 inches of new growth in a growing season. If your plants are adding less than that in a season, it may be worth your while to check the fertility level.
Where do Sugar Tiger Peach Trees Grow Best?
Peach trees grow best in well-drained, fertile soil in at least 6 hours of full sun per day or more.
Do You Need 2 Peach Trees to Produce Fruit?
All peach trees are self-fertile, however planting more than one peach tree that blooms at about the same time, boosts yields on both trees and extends your harvest time!
Harvest Times for Sugar Tiger Peach Trees
Sugar Tigers are typically ready to harvest in June through July. Keep in mind exact harvest times are subject to change depending on the hardiness zones they’re being grown in.
Early-Season? Mid-Season? Late-Season? The terminology can be confusing for new peach tree growers. Weather, climate and your tree determine when it’s ripe.
When Should Sugar Tiger Peach Tree be Planted?
Bareroot peach trees can be planted in spring when they are available in your area. Container-grown peach trees can be very successfully transplanted all throughout the growing season. Check for first and last frost dates for your area with your local County Extension Office.
- Plant bareroot peach trees in the early spring.
- Plant container-grown trees anytime the ground is not frozen by digging a hole as deep as the soil line and twice as wide.
