Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

One of the finest flavored and most widely adapted Blueberries ever released, the Southmoon Blueberry (Vaccinium x 'Southmoon') is a complex hybrid! Introduced by the University of Florida in 1995, it combines the finest traits of several Highbush varieties and then was backcrossed to wild low-chill native Florida varieties. So it's got an extensive family tree!

The pinkish-white bell-shaped blossoms are a pollinator's favorite and you'll soon enjoy the plump dark-blue berries forming early in the growing season. These are high in vitamins and antioxidant-rich fruits that taste good fresh, in preserves, made into sauces and frozen!

A mid-season bearing Southern Highbush, this variety isn't as fussy as other Blueberries. Southmoon works particularly well in warmer climates due to its low chill requirement and will even tolerate light frost. It ripens in the early season. You should expect fruit in 2 or 3 years.

Planting and Application:

The upright growth of the plant lends itself to easy harvesting either by hand in the You-Pick orchard or the home garden. But also lends itself to being fantastic privacy hedges and groupings! Plant rows along your home's foundation or shield your front yard from the street. More the merrier works because we recommend planting varieties with different ripening times along with Southmoon to extend your harvest period.

Southmoon is a beautiful ornamental plant in the landscape or in patio planters, especially in areas where Blueberries don't do well in the ground. Blueberries are always a lot of fun to have in the edible landscape. They're not only beautiful and fruitful but also provide a harvest that has incredible health benefits for the entire family.

  • Healthy Dark-Blue Berries
  • Lovely Pinkish White Blossoms for Bees
  • Mid-Season Southern Highbush
  • Hedges, Groupings & Containers
  • Compact & Upright Space-Saving Growth

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Low-maintenance Southmoon tolerates a higher pH soil up to 6.0 and still thrives and be productive. It does very well in sandy soil if amended with organic material. Fertilize with an organic acid fertilizer quarterly to maintain a healthy, productive plant.

  • Full Sun
  • Slightly Acidic Well-Drained Soil
  • Prune When Dormant
  • Mulch the Root Zone Well
  • 400 Chill Hours

The Southmoon Blueberry is a terrific choice for warm climate gardens and homesteaders! Order yours today and start growing healthy homegrown goodness today, with NatureHills.com!
