Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age

A dense purple-leafed shade tree with amazing fall color! The Royal Red Norway Maple Tree (Acer platanoides 'Royal Red') is a Red Norway Maple selection that is similar to Crimson King but with what some consider a better color all growing season long. The foliage is a glossy reddish-purple that seems to shimmer in the sunlight!
Royal Red is a classic purple-leafed Norway Maple tree that keeps its brilliant crimson-purple color all summer long. A dense shade tree, it has a straight trunk with a well-shaped, dense, broad oval form. The crown is originally conical before becoming broadly round as it matures.
The yellow-green flowers emerge on the bare twigs in the spring and the clusters will be swarming with hungry bees, which are followed by tiny whirligigs!
The foliage transforms into a showy warm color for the autumn! Royal Red is a bit slower growing than other Maples, but that means less maintenance! One of the finest of the Red Maples, it has a sturdy straight trunk and this variety is also less prone to frost crack.
Landscape Application:
The Royal Red Norway Maple is great as a shade tree or specimen tree! Park one in your front lawn for a fantastic burst of curb appeal, plus shading and cooling your home when placed on your home's southwestern and western-facing sides to reduce bills in the summer months.
The Royal Red is hardy and adaptable to a wide variety of environments and tolerant of pollution and heat. These attributes make Royal Red a wonderful tree for urban settings, such as along boulevards and larger streets!
Just keep this 20 - 25-foot wide tree at least 10 - 12 feet away from foundations, septic tanks, and paved areas because Maple tree roots can be aggressive in their search for room and nutrients.
If you have the room, groupings and groves in your backyard where you can set an entire firepit and seating area, hammock, or outdoor dining room beneath their shady limbs!
- Bright Saturated Reddish-Purple Foliage
- Straight Trunk Resists Frost Crack
- Gorgeous Fall Color
- Yellow Flowers & Winged Samaras
- Dense Shade Trees, Specimen Trees & Street Trees
- Long-Lived Wildlife Trees
#ProPlantTips for Care
Plant this tree in full sun in cooler climates, but handle afternoon shade in hotter growing zones. Royal Red is adaptable to various soil conditions, including clay, sand, or acidic conditions, as long as they are well-drained. Largely heat tolerant, and moderately drought resistant once established, plus it tolerates air pollution. Water new trees regularly during their first year or so in the ground and water during prolonged droughts in the summer.
Mulch your tree 3 to 4 inches deep, and out to 3 feet beyond the outside of the canopy to protect the top of the root zone. While it's tolerant of some drought, you'll get the best results with regular watering. Plan to drag your hose out to provide deep waterings during extreme periods of heat. Prune your tree in late winter after the sap has run to avoid sticky drops.
- Heat Tolerant & Loves Full Sun
- Any Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture Needs - Drought-Tolerant Once Established
- Prune When Dormant
- Very Easy To Grow & Low-Maintenance
Gorgeous red foliage and a round canopy, the Royal Red Norway Maple Tree will add its saturated beauty to your landscape without all the work! Now available at NatureHills.com!
