This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

The Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Althea, China Chiffon® Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus 'Bricutts') produces large, single white flowers that are adorned with a streaked red eye and a lacy center to create an anemone-like flower! Also known as Althea, and related to Tropical Hibiscus, these are just as brilliant and easy to grow as their cousins!
A strong growth habit lends itself to pruning into a tree form or kept as an upright shrub that is easy for beginner gardeners and experts alike! Full of lush deep green foliage that is a fantastic backdrop for the gleaming white blooms! The large overlapping petals and red bullseye are a beacon for pollinators, hummingbirds, and local bees!
Being a very easy-to-grow and strong-growing plant with lots of large blooms, China Chiffon® will become the star in the garden from July through September, with bold yet delicate blooms! Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 8, Althea grows to a hefty and elegantly branched 8 to 12-foot tall shrub or multi-branched tree form!
Planting and Application:
China Chiffon® is great for borders and backdrops to highlight Roses, Perennials, and Cottage borders! Radiant blooms shine as a specimen plant and flowering focal point in the sun! You'll love having one as a pinpoint shade plant, or in rows for privacy around seating areas. The soft and soothing colored flowers add a cool and calming effect to Meditation gardens and sunny hot porches and patios alike!
Trim smaller, or plant in an oversized container for a patio plant and on balconies for privacy and screening! Fantastic pollinator garden plants, China Chiffon® turns your sunny yard into a soothing private retreat with their help along your property line or creating outdoor garden rooms! Althea also looks incredible as an anchor plant to soften the corners of a garage or garden shed. China Chiffon® works beautifully with nearly any style of architecture, too.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Keep it well watered during growth. China Chiffon® does best in full sun, but the light shade is acceptable, especially in far southern or southwestern climates. Plant it in a spot where they will get at least six hours of sunlight a day, but in hotter climates, they can handle some afternoon shade. Provide a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Use a three-inch layer of arborist mulch over the top of the root system to keep them nice and cool. Apply a slow-release fertilizer designed for flowering plants at the same time.
This gorgeous shrub blooms on new wood, so prune Althea in early spring to either shape or control the height. You'll have flowers later that season, no matter how tightly you trim them in spring. You can even train these shrubs into multi or single-stemmed tree forms! Renewal prune every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.
