How to Use Redskin Peach Tree in the Landscape

Children will be so curious to track the progress from flower to finished fruit. Use one as a useful shade tree on the southwest side of their playhouse. Create a mulched bed for planting.

Yes, people are incorporating gorgeous fruiting trees into their landscape design. After all, they make incredible specimen trees. Edible Landscaping is here to stay!

Add Peach trees as a backdrop for your Victory Garden. If you have the room, let them grow out to their full height and spread.

In a smaller yard, keep the summer pruned for size control. Nurseries across the country have been using "high-density" planting techniques for thirty years.

Decide how tall and wide you want your trees, and keep them at that size. This opens the door to add more varieties. Select an early and a late season Peach tree to enjoy fresh fruit long with successive ripening.

Study our blog and YouTube channel for more information on this. Summer pruning takes only a little bit of time, and allows you to grow 3 or 4 trees in a single hole. You can even create a useful fruiting hedgerow that doubles as a privacy screen!

You'll love the shaggy, "Captain Caveman" look of rough-textured Peach trees. Run them along your fence line to add privacy and define your space.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Peach trees need full sun. Please plant them where they get at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.

Pro Tip: plant in an area that receives morning sun to quickly dry off the foliage from overnight dew.

You'll keep your tree healthy with good sun and air circulation. Don't plant too close to buildings, or where air gets trapped.

Peach trees also need well-drained soils. If you have poor drainage, plant in a mound of soil to 18 inches by three feet wide. Add a nice border for a raised bed.

Apply a medium amount of water on a regular basis. A good rule of thumb is to plan for watering once a week, unless you receive a good rain.

Apply a three-inch layer of mulch over the top of the root system. Spread the mulch out to three feet outside of the canopy, but pull it well back from around the trunk.

Prune in late winter or very early spring before you see new growth. Correct the shape of the scaffolding branches at that time. Remove crossing branches and open up the canopy to air circulation and sunlight.

Don't go another season without starting on your Redskin Peach trees. Order right away if you see these in stock. We sell out of our fruiting crops so quickly.

Peach Tree Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for Redskin Elberta Peach Trees to bear fruit?

Nature Hills Nursery sells fruit trees with mature root systems that are already three to four years old, so you’ll enjoy fruit sooner than you would with younger trees! Expect a young peach tree to begin fruiting by the 3rd year after you plant it.

How Fast Do Redskin Elberta Peach Trees Grow?

Be sure to plant your peach in a sunny and well-drained location. Once your Redskin Elberta (Prunus persica 'Redskin') has been established (after the first year), it can typically add 12-18 inches of new growth in a growing season. If your plants are adding less than that in a season, it may be worth your while to check the fertility level.

Where do Redskin Elberta Peach Trees Grow Best?

Peach trees grow best in well-drained, fertile soil in at least 6 hours of full sun per day or more.

Do You Need 2 Peach Trees to Produce Fruit?

All peach trees are self-fertile, however planting more than one peach tree that blooms at about the same time, boosts yields on both trees and extends your harvest time!

Harvest Times for Redskin Elberta Peach Trees

Redskin Elbertas are typically ready to harvest in July to August. Keep in mind exact harvest times are subject to change depending on the hardiness zones they’re being grown in.

Early-Season? Mid-Season? Late-Season? The terminology can be confusing for new peach tree growers. Weather, climate and your tree determine when it’s ripe.

When Should Redskin Elberta Peach Tree be Planted?

Bareroot peach trees can be planted in spring when they are available in your area. Container-grown peach trees can be very successfully transplanted all throughout the growing season. Check for first and last frost dates for your area with your local County Extension Office.

  • Plant bareroot peach trees in the early spring.
  • Plant container-grown trees anytime the ground is not frozen by digging a hole as deep as the soil line and twice as wide.
