Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Gorgeous and stunning, the Red Barron Flowering Crabapple (Malus x 'Red Barron') is a deciduous tree that offers 4-season ornamental interest! Your Red Barron Crabapple will amaze you when its profusion of red buds opens in May! Each spring, Red Barron drapes itself in striking clusters of fragrant red flowers that virtually cover the branches in scarlet intensity!

As the season progresses, the foliage emerges a coppery bronze, transitioning to dark green, before clothing your tree in brilliant orange for autumn. The falling leaves reveal the glorious color of the fruit, a deep, shiny red that gives your Crabapple its name. Not to be confused with the Red Baron Apple Tree, these bright red, cherry-sized Crabapple fruits ripen in early to late fall and often persist through the winter months.

The flowers are vital nectar resources for pollinators and the fruit is a fantastic food for wildlife and songbirds throughout the winter. Plus, while tart and puckery, Crabapples are actually edible for humans too!

Planting and Application:

These slim trees add pinpoint shade to garden beds and unique accents around the garden without worrying about sacrificing space! Easily tuck one into a garden bed or border as a 4-season accent and not lose room for other plants or garden space!

It's a terrific accent tree, with a narrow, upright nature that's perfect for smaller landscapes. If you have a spot for an ornamental tree, but not much space, Red Barron is for you! Red Barron Crabapple has a narrowly upright, columnar growth habit. Its low canopy has a typical clearance of two feet from the ground and is suitable for planting under power lines.

  • Abundant Red Spring Bloom
  • Fruit Persists All Winter
  • Fragrant Blooms
  • Bronze Foliage
  • Four-Season Interest

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Although adaptive, full sunlight will provide the best color in your Red Barron. Very urban savvy, tolerant of most any soil as long as it's well-drained and mulched. Because of the great form this tree has, it needs little pruning or help from anyone to do anything except show off all year long. Use Nature Hills Root Booster to get your tree off to the best start!

Under ideal conditions, you can expect your Red Barron Ornamental Crabapple Tree to thrive in your yard for fifty years or more! So get growing one today by ordering at NatureHills.com!
