Pretty in pink, the Pink Lady Indian Hawthorn (Rhaphiolepis indica 'Pink Lady') grows into a mounded natural size with leathery green leaves that emerge an incredible coppery red! These are the perfect foil for loads of pink blossoms that become shiny purplish-black berries in the fall! As an added burst of color, the entire shrub takes on a purplish hue in the fall and persists into the winter!
Featuring flowers that are a cross between pinkish Jasmine or pink crabapple blossoms. The five-pointed blooms have dark pink buds and pink petals. Pink Lady Hawthorn attracts loads of pollinators looking for a late-season feast because of the delicately sweet scent! You'll love having a few of them in a vase for an informal bouquet or tablescape!
Because of the heat of summer, the blooms instead appear on your shrub from late winter into spring, bridging the gap between spring and summer flowering plants and extending your garden's blooms. The Pink Lady is a broadleaf evergreen and a lovely selection of a South China native with a moderate growth rate and thrives throughout USDA growing zones 8 through 10.
Planting and Application:
A single specimen or accent lights up a garden and adds year-round greenery and late-season blooms to the border as an anchor! Pink Lady is a very xeric plant and looks great in those tricker locations with reduced moisture access. Rock Gardens and that hell strip along the road, a sidewalk, or the driveway are ideal locations for these lovely flowering evergreen bushes! Mix and match your Pink Lady with a smaller Clara White Hawthorn!
Indian Hawthorn bushes are wonderful foundation plantings and hedges, the glossy foliage shines in the sun! A modest-sized shrub growing 4-6 feet in height and width, evergreen Hawthorns are fantastic year-round privacy hedges and screening borders with dense foliage and coverage! Use as backdrops for garden borders and evergreen property definition! Mix and match with other evergreen Hawthorn for a varied look!
Snip a few stems for indoor bouquets, but be sure to leave a few on the bush for them to become the ornamental berries that birds love to eat! While deciduous Hawthorne are edible medicinal plants, it's not recommended to try those remedies and recipes with these hybrid Indian Hawthorn.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Indian Hawthorn grows best in full sun - at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Provide moderate moisture and an enriched, well-draining soil for best results, but once established, these shrubs can be quite drought-tolerant. Prune if needed when needed but wait until after the flowers fade to fully enjoy them to their fullest. These fantastic shrubs tolerate sandy soils and coastal areas well!
If you live in an area with high deer pressure, from the very first day you plant your Indian Hawthorn, spray it with deer repellant so that deer learn from day one that this plant doesn't taste good. Reapply according to product directions to keep your shrubs from being damaged and to train your local population of deer to avoid your shrubs!
- Full Sun
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Well-Drained Enriched Soil
- Prune As Needed
- Apply Deer Repellant Regularly
