Bold Oriental red trumpets that announce the start of the holiday season, the Merry Christmas African Amaryllis (Hippeastrum 'Merry Christmas') is a Symphony variety of Amaryllis that resembles big red satellites! Saturated color through and through, the multiple blooms open into enormous trumpets that encircle the strong sturdy stems!

Fringed in strappy green foliage, these gorgeous perennial bulbs can be forced indoors for stunning winter décor! Fast-growing, the foliage is perfect for showcasing the enormous flowers that look gorgeous on their own when not in bloom!

Fantastic gift items, Merry Christmas African Amaryllis can be planted outside in USDA growing zones 9 to 10, and in cooler climates can plant Merry Christmas bulbs outside but they will need to be dug up before frost and stored in a cool dark location for the winter as you would with Dahlia and Canna Lily.

Planting and Application:

These fabulous blooms easily hold their own! The bold red blossoms are radiant winter blooms that light up your holiday décor as a living feature! Pot up in a fancy urn or a special vase just for forcing Amaryllis bulbs and creating a spectacle of bold scarlet hues. You won't need much because Merry Christmas Amaryllis are long-lasting full blooms, and the strappy green foliage shines in a bright, sunny window!

Merry Christmas African Amaryllis can be planted outdoors in frost-free growing zones of 9 and up and look amazing in mixed or specimen plantings on your porch or patio! Create groupings and rows in the landscape for a grand early spring or summer pop of color that pollinators adore!

  • Deep Showy Red Blooms With Broad Petals
  • Long-Lasting & Multiple Buds Per Stem
  • Tall Clumps of Strappy Green Leaves
  • Tropical Perennial Bulbs
  • Force For Winter Décor, Gift Plant & Containers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Preferring full sun outdoors and bright indirect sun indoors, Amaryllis bulbs should be planted in enriched, well-drained soil, pointed end up, with the neck and top third of the bulb above the soil. Then water moderately and mulch well. Disliking soggy soil, water sparingly to ensure the bulb has just enough moisture to grow. Amaryllis should be dead-headed as soon as the blooms fade, but the foliage looks handsome all growing season! Keep the handsome foliage intact and place them in a bright sunny window to make food for the bulb.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Moderately Moist Well-Drained Organic Soil
  • Deadhead After Bloom & Clean Mound When Leaves Yellow
  • Appreciates Mulched Beds Outdoors
  • Dislikes Soggy Soil
